advice pls guys on clutch(again lol)

just recived my new clutch just waiting to get it fitted now a mate of mine recons it could be some thing else not the clutch
symtoms follow:-
car running clutch in wont select gear
give about 2000rpm goes in with no trouble( no noise grinding or clunking)
while driving selection is positive and firm no probs

on hills holding the cluch grating noise not all the time tho

any ideas just while the clutch is out i can illiminate any more probs:Thumbs-up

If the pedal feels O/K then you need to pull the box out to do a proper diagnosis,
