quick question, is displaying the licence plate in your windscreen ( i.e sat on your dash) like i\'ve seen some guys do illegal or not?

Mobilemick

i was told off once for having it in the windscreen,  but that was about 15 years ago  lol

I was told by a 5.0. it has to be Fixed to the car and readable, i would say if the reg is not where the Copper is expecting it to be I.e on the front of your car he may pull you, it would just be a reason to pull you over.

Worst being worst it will be a £30 fine for not properly displaying your front plate.

At a guess I would say it is illegal.
I would imagine the Gatso\'s would have an issue with glare while attempting to photograph your number.
Don\'t really know, but as said previously depends on the mood of the officer stopping you at the time !!

it is illegal, dad`s a traffic cop
if i had 8 hour to cut down a tree. i`d spend 6 sharpening the axe

When I got pulled for not having one the very nice policeman told me to put the plate in the windscreen ...... I suspect that was better than it being in the boot which I admitted to under torture and only as a temporary measure especially as he knew there was another not so reasonable policeman further up the road pulling offending cars over left right and centre ...... this was at Japfest a couple of years back.

I might think again about not having a front plate if I got fined too many times but so far I have been lucky ...... touch wood ....... maybe there are so many stickers on the front that to a casual glance it looks like I might have one.

mines alays been in front window. Never had an trouble in the RX.

But I say that. We got pulled in my gf\'s old modified Corsa,as it had just come out of bodyshop, so plates front AND back were in screens!
And as I was driving I got the fine!! :grr

I\'ve been pulled in the past for having a numberplate in the front window. I\'d gone 6 months prior with no problems and past many coppers, so I guess I caught one on a bad day.

at the end of the day, it\'s not legal unfortunatly.

Tbh guys we all knows its not the right way to show your plate,

I have mine in the windscreen as waiting to possibly re-spray the car before applying a sticky front plate as dont wanna block the intercooler or oil coolers by putting the plate infront, those at rotorstock today saw my plate number with username on right infront of the intercooler yes ??? its not fixed peeps was just propped there for show purposes as a few people made comments about blocking the air intake :Tongue1 :flamed

there is a section on dvla web site about position of the plates, its not black and white but gives a guide, also says you can have a smaller than standard front plate if your import has no specific area for mounting a plate and a full size plate will cause an obstruction. the plate size allowed is letter size 63mm min with 10mm gaps same as a motorbike. doesnt sound much but looks alot neater and stays legal. jon

thats a nice bit of info. seen those plates on a few motors and wondered how they weren\'t getting pulled daily.

its not illegal - common mis-conseption within the police force. as long as it is readable from in front of the car at the standard distance, then all ok. there is nowhere to be read that the number plate must be physically attached to the front of the car on the outside. hence why you can pass an mot with plate in the windscreen! :D

Kevin

Attach it to the underside of your passenger sunvisor, down for being legal(ish) and pop it up and out the way when you do a few high speed runs.

Not that i would recommend it, just in theory! :D
