I\'m Putting an Apexi PFC on and think my Cat is blocked.
Plus
My car is a 1992 J and as far as i know it doesnt need a Cat before 1993 K.

If this is the case is it better to have a De-cat when running with the Apexi.

All my other cars benefited from a De-cat - just not sure the 7 will be the same.

Whats your thoughts guys??

If your fitting a pfc, you should remove the cat to get the most from the mapping of the pfc. Just keep of boost untill it\'s mapped. When you remove the cat, remove the airpump.

I decatted mine a good few years ago, it liberated an extra 19 rwbhp.  I know because it was decatted at a rolling road session and we did runs before and after.  I do have a bigger downpipe (which was already on).

By the way I\'m sure your car will need a cat for the MOT...correct me if I\'m wrong guys.  Certainly when mine is MOT\'d it has to meet the emissions and it\'s a 92 J.

This is it you see - i need 100% confirmation if it needs a Cat or not - i\'ve been told differently you see.

mine doesnt have a cat or airpump and it passes mot (1992 J), i always take it down to tim at rxmotors and he gets it mot\'ed not sure if he has to adjust the map at all to get it through.  A good person to talk to on here is a guy called sicknote, i dont think he is a member thou so prob hard to get hold of

chrisJDM

well do you mind your car being loud???? have you heard a FD with a straight through cat pipe?? does depend alot on your backbox etc but they can be pretty loud, mine is pretty loud with a silenced decat, if you want something that is going to do the job and is proven to be a good product give one of the tuners a call most of them can get hold of decats or silenced decats for a good price.

Paul1982

My car at the moment is silent lol - maybe cos my cat might be getting blocked but i do like a nice note :-)

franky

would you neeed to get it mapped it to get a de-cat i just got a standard rx could i get a de-cat or would it kill something its a 92 as well??? heard it helps on fuel to this true????

All i could find regarding MOT\'s & Cat\'s is this.
"On 1 January 1996 petrol engine vehicles equipped with catalytic converters and registered after 1 August 1992 became subject to the new CAT emissions test as part of the MoT. Only Green MoT stations may carry out these tests. Those vehicles registered prior to 1 August 1992 fitted with CATs are not subject to the MoT CAT emissions test. There are some vehicles registered during 1993 and 1994 which may not be catalyst equipped."

Puts me in the clear as mines a June 92:)

Paul1982

Good good - i\'ll be a happy man then lol

Franky - if your put a De-cat on it\'ll make the car run richer which will take the timin out on the RX - This is the big difference when getting remapped as the ECU will recalculate it properly.

What you gonna do with the Heat light Paul, just done my de-cat today and mines on all the time,
Cheers Bob

franky

so you woundn\'t recomend it then?

ro284

yes i would, i am hoping someone will come up with a fix for it though.as the heat lamp is used to flash high knock on the Apexi

Take the drivers seat out and unplug the connector. Then bridge both terminals of the connector with a piece of wire which will turn the light off.:Thumbs-up
