Well we went along to see what the other side had to offer regards the strip. Ummmmmm! very interesting !

The REX ,made quite a splash, as they are as hard to find out here as rocking horse pooooo!

The track.

Airport runway. Not too bad, little pumpy, but had a 3% incline, so that makes a very small effect, up hill.
They had some reasonable timeing systems from the states so that bit was OK.

About 40 cars turned up to race, CLK 55 merc AMG almost new. OK, I think that ran high 12 low 13 second runs. Not bad for such a BIG motor.
A LADA, yes a Larda, all  Stripped out 4 carbs, and a modified engine. Don’t knock it, that was running low 12 second runs, just a track car though. Some guy turned up with an old sierra, which he managed to break but I was told that was normally good for low 11, to high 10 second runs, Only a track machine, 4X4. some old quato’s 500 BHP 4X4 just a track machine again, low 12 second machines.

I think they expected a bit more from the Rex but due to some crap starts, and the fact I was running road rubber my best was 12.434 196.7 Km-h terminal. Got beat by, old style 3 series  BMW with big rubber running a BMW 4.5 turbo lump, by 100th of a second, but if the start had been better I could have had him.

The one I enjoyed the most was creaming a 2006, 911 turbo with power pack fitted around 450BHP. But he did put up good fight, he got a better start than me, he managed a 12.65 and I done a 12.52 on that run. But it was good fun. They told me the fastest machine out here at the Mo, is an R33 4X4 Skyline running around 1000 BHP which runs low 10 second runs, but that’s broke also, at this time. Generally guys turning up with half decent cars build for the track are running around mid to high 12 second runs. Not the best but respectable time.

As I said, my car is a road used car with road rubber ( not running at it’s full prep capability) and for my money, consistent  low to mid 12 second runs with a proper road going machine I think is quite good. As I don’t think there are many cars out there on proper road rubber who can get into the high 11 low 12 second runs almost every time. I think, with a good start and a dead level run, as she is, best would be around 11.9 to 12 dead, with a good start and some track rubber maybe 11.7 or 8.

Fastest car of the day, was about 11.6 on one run, rest were about 12.2, 12.6 sort of times.

Good fun though!
