Got a question for you all...

I\'ve recently taken my spoiler off my FD, and obviously I\'ve been left with the four holes on the boot.

So I went through the process of filling these holes, then priming, then painting with colour.

The colour was what I was given when I got the car, the same candy red it was sprayed in. So I sprayed it in this colour. Let i dry etc, took all masking tape off, and the colour seems to be different, very slightly darker.

Now, I know the car was sprayed like 2yrs ago now, so maybe the red has faded slightly?? although I cant see why it would as its not as if its left outside much, as its always garaged.

So, I hoped that adding lacquering and then the \'polishing in\' would alter the colour a bit. But it doesn\'t have seemed to very much at all.

I am very happy with the finish, other than the colour.
So what I\'m asking is. Is there any way to alter that colour of the red I sprayed on??

Cheers,

Alex

reds are the worst colours to respray parts n blend in, youl fined youd prob need to do ther whole boot lid to hide the resparyed part

Had hoped you\'d reply!

You dont think there is anything I can do to try and hide it bit more than what it is now?

do you have a local paint supplyer near you? it it 2pk paint your using? you can add more thinners to dilute the paint more, depends what ratio`s the painter before used.. also if you take the petrol cap down to them they cn make it up better for you, or go to a bodyshop and they`ll mix up a perfect match..

Reds really are a pig lol.. i had to paint the whole bck rear quater n the door to blend in a bad key on ma m8s car.. grrr..

Also not sure if you cn still buy them but you cn get a colour kinda changer thing.. that u add at a drop at a time and it changes the colour lighter or darker.. hope that helps ya m8..

I see.. But theres nothing I can do for the paint thats on there now then ?

no bud, you can try g3 polish and a compund mop n machine and blend the colour a bit, should make it less noticable, but if yer like me,.. then knowing its slightly different bugs the crap out of you :S

it would only be a temp fix for now, as I plan to respray it all pearl white at somepoint anyway.

I\'ve got a sneaky feeling this G3 polish is quite expensive?! lol

if you say its a candy paint did you use the correct base coat ??? know that candy apple red needs a silver base coat 1st thus making the finish brighter .

Alex T

Do you know what, this is exactly what I was thinking yesterday. As I remembered my gf\'s old corsa had HOK candy paint on, and the base coat was shimrin\' silver.

Unfortunately I\'d remembered this too late and I\'ve used grey primer.

So you reckon this could be why I\'ve got the \'newer paint\' is slightly darker than the old paint??

d-king

it quite likely mate :0) grey is very differant to sparkly silver so the effect will be differant , candy is a semi transparent coloured top coat to make the silver a differant coulor ! hard as hell to match mate ive tried and failed in the past :0(

Alex T

how silly of me!!

So its either, completely redo those bits?, or try this polish and hope for best result poss?!

g3 aint really a polish bud its a rubbing compound a bit like t-cut but alot more harsh especially on single coat paint you may find you rub straight through it sorry , if at 1st you dont succeed try try an try again :0)
