Hey guys,

Just though for fun i would model a 13b turbo (big!) exhaust manifold...

Its not to scale, as i really need all the specs like diameter of exhaust ports and the likes... spacing between them etc... (also bolt positions)...

This is it so far (no wastegate pipe yet... doing that at the moment)...

I\'ll update this stuff... its nothing flash, just some fun...

Looking good :cool

What program did you use to do that? I\'ve done some 3D rendering in AutoCad 2002, but to be honest AutoCad seems not very user friendly in 3D mode :(

Kind Regards,

Paul:)

looks good ... the round to square transition would be hard to make ... especialy since its on a bend too :)

What program are you using ... doesn\'t look like Autocad as those curved surfaces are too complex.

I use CAD in my job (UG) so this is the sort of stuff I deal with on a daily basis :)  (the modelling parts is fun ... but then you have to detail it ... not so much fun :) )

I used Rhinoceros 3d (rhino 3d)... //www.rhino3d.com

Yeah gets a little tricky with the whole wastegate stuff... so many damn solids and curves to merge... and then hollowing out the solids...  :o

MikeLMR

been having a play too ... this one is based on a manifold built for a cosmo engine fitted to a 1st gen in the states ...

Impressive... what program was that made with? what renderer did you use? :)

If it is rhino, how did you hollow out the piping... i dont know if there is a hollow tool...

Real nice pics but unless your running a tiny Turbo with an inbuilt wastegate you will need additions to your manifold designs to get the wastegases out or you will never control the boost and your engine will blow !!

[see my manifold below]

MK1 with insufficient waste capabilities, Rotary\'s need to seriously dump exhaust gas when they reach the desired boost level.

Hi Wobbz ... it wasn\'t done using Rhino

Clive ... didn\'t get time to find the wastegate dimensions ... this was a half hour rush job so some of the dimensions are guestimates :)

I will have a play tonight if I get time.

If I had some good line drawings of some rotor/side housings I could scale I would model the engine to bolt it too :)

Care to tell me what CAD package? might go hunting for it :D

Hmm... that second render... looks like a seriously high quality prog to me. Could be 3ds Max with raytracing, but it doesn\'t look quite right. Something about the reflections in the curves. I\'m guessing Maya. I\'m also guessing that given the cost of either of those progs, you may not want to say exactly how you \'acquired\' the software :)

Am I close? :D

I\'m using Rhinoceros 3.0 (evaluation... fully functional although supposedly only "25 saves"... although mine is glitching and somehow continously says 24 or 25 saves remaining  )...

Here is with the wastegate pipes... although it is not modelled as i\'d like it (pipes aren\'t hollow for the dump pipes, appears the curves are too complex for Rhino?)...

As for the rendering tools... i may try it in some later... :p I just wanted to try rhino... its actually affordable and easy to use! (compared to maya :( )... although the curves thing seems like an issue... I couldn\'t actually Union (join) the 2 different dump pipes...

Im currently studying 3D Digital Design at Salford University so this stuff is right up my street :P

Just gotta get some more mechanical knowledge behind me!
