Rear lighting pattern

I have recently done the DIY 99 spec tailight mod. On testing the lights I noticed that on pressing the brake pedal only one red circle on either side lights up. Having seen plenty of pics and videos every other car illuminates all four red circles on braking.

I have looked at the wiring to the bulbs and they are different so I was wondering whether it was an easy fix? Could it be due to the fact that my car is uk spec that it is wired differently or is there likely to be a deeper underlying problem?

Any other UK spec owners noticed the same thing?
