Im having a dead brain session here, can anyone that has used Clive\'s belt to remove the Air Pump, do a sketch to show which belts go round which pulley\'s.
Lead me not into temptation, I can find it myself...
But i can always do with some help now due to, my advancing years!

Its pretty simple, all you do it take the air pump off and put the belt in it can only really go one way I think.

Dont forget that if you remove the airpump, you need a shorter belt. This shorter belt only goes round the alternator and eccentric shaft pulley. The water pump pulley drives off the back of this belt, you adjust the tension using the adjuster on the alternator.

The water pump confused me, so the water pump is driven off the back of the new belt, thanks.

Good question mate. I  ditched the airpump just this weekend and fitted the greddy pulleys to the alternator and watepump. I know that if you keep the standard pulleys, the belt you need is a 4 rib, 300mm belt made by goodyear. I would guess we will need a 320-340mm 4rib belt because of the larger greddy pulleys.

Thanks for that info..

So 320 - 340 in width but HOW LONG ?  any car parts shop or a specific one?

I want to keep one in the boot - RAC or AA will not have one like that with them - you will be stuck or transported to home or garage
That could be a night mare course most of our cars are lowered and only a flat bed will do - and that can take hrs to arrive ( personal experience )

Hi John,

Yes it\'s driven off the back of the belt which means if your standing at the front of the car the belt will go around the right hand side of the pulley.

BTW, good news is that I have been defiantly promised our exhaust delivery this week some time.

I have a UK car with a pre-cat, no main cat.

My question is... can I safely remove the Airpump?

If so... is there a guide and also where do you get the belt required from?

(my cars in bits at the moment, so might as well do it if I can!)

You only remove the airpump if your gonna remvove the main cat. The airpump blows air into the cat under 3500rpm or about that rpm range. when you remove the cat, there is no need to have the airpump, but you will need a blanking plate  where the pipe goes from the lim to the cat. The airpump also helps lower emissions for the mot, but people have managed to pass without a cat or airpump! I wouldn\'t reccommend removing the airpump with the cat in place, dont know the exact reason but i\'ve just read that it shouldn\'t be done. When you fit your dp, just remove the airpump and buy some underdrive pulleys.

So I should leave the air pump in while I still have the pre-cat?

I\'ve seen some under drive pulleys on places like ebay etc for £30. Obviously, not a big jap make. Is a different belt still required if these are bought?

thanks in advance.

Hi

Put a tread in wanted section for second hand pulleys on here and you will get some...do not get any cheap stuff, the "norm" seems to be to get greddy pulleys

My pipes were just blocked off – there was no need for a blanking tape – just as good and if you need to ever put the car back to stock then the stuff is there ready…
