Hi all

Whilst driving my completely standard FD at high revs on the second turbo (past the change over point), I sometimes suffer a slight hessitation to pull. I have had the engine compression tested recently and that came out ok and I always run it on Shell V Power.

I thought I would check the ECU for fault codes tonight.  So I shorted out pin ten and gnd on the diagnostics connector under the bonnet and turned the key to run.
I didn\'t get any engine management light codes flashed out.  In fact it did nothing, is this normal? Could someone tell me where the Engine management light appears in the warning light cluster (eg. between handbrake light and seatbelt light).

Also will the stock ECU give you an indication that it was suffering knock, before retarding?

I\'m a bit worried that this bulb could have been removed at some point of the cars life to hide a fault.

Any information would be gratefully received.

(past the change over point),

Exactly how many revs is this?

uk ones dont have this light only us mate,

you need a 680r resistor and a led to short some pins and look for flashes.

i think its ten is test enable fen is fault enable and men is memory enable or something and you need test and fault not ground.

I thought the change over point for the turbos was 4500-5000.  My problem seems to happen at different revs sometimes 6000 next time it could be 7000.  There seems to be no pattern except that it occurs on the second turbo.

The first time I noticed it I thought it was my imagination. Joining the motorway in third gear getting up to speed and it felt like all of a sudden that it was holding back.  Came of the throttle thinking **** whats up.  Then decided to put my foot down to see if it happened again and it flew.

Do these Jap imports suffer from knocking whilst running on V power?

Cheers M4drx

That might explain why there is no flashing management light.  Does that apply to Jap imports as well?  I read the ten and gnd short out from an American website (rxcity).  I noticed that on a label stuck under my bonnet written in japanese there is a picture of the diagnostic port showing ten and gnd linked and thought that it must also apply to mine.

Lucky I didn\'t blow anything

Do you have any info or website links for that resistor led trick?

it could be that you have a ecu that isnt stock mazda ie panspeed mines etc which would mean you are running higher boost with worse fuel basically so in my eyes more room for det.

could be that your primary tubby is overworking due to a problems and the second is only coming in later if your not getting a jerk at 4.5k ish?

buy the bits that i said should come to about 85p at maplins and give it a go im sure its ten & fen. you\'ll know as it wont do anything on the others and you are literally testing for faults so it makes senses anyways.
