OK, just got hold of some mechanical water and oil temperature gauges. wondering where to install the oil temp sensor; anyone done this? Did you fit it to the sump, into the oil cooler pipework, into a filter spacer, or somewhere else? Any photos?

Thanks,
Mave :)

You can get spacer plates for the oil filter that have two sensor takeoffs, usually used for oil pressure and oil temp.

Thanks mate, looks like it\'ll be the spacer option. I didn\'t really want to start messing around with the sump.

another cheap and easy option/place is in the end of the banjo bolt that attaches the oil line to the cooler by the oil filter,  just take it out, drill a hole in the end and tap it for your sender.  You could get a spare one from somewhere incase you cock it up.
