Hi

I have recently installed Apexi fc and commander to my 96 RB Bathurst

Some of you might have read my posts re the above.

As the car performs sooo much better, the boost is up a little to 0.92…drives fantastic.  However, occasionally and generally within the first 5min of driving I get hunting at idle and also high RPM surge when coming off a gear change or throttle acceleration.

It does not happen very often but this never happened with the stock ecu.

I have a base map for my car with the boost lifted by 0.5 on primary and on secondary.

Initially my idle was set too high so I lowered it to 750 and it is a lot better..

The car has HKS back box, blitz BOV and cat still in the mid pipe..

Do I have to go for a map or can I wait till I fit dragon silenced mid pipe and then get a map?

Has any one experienced similar issues?  I have learned that one can reset the ecu but I will loose the map put on by the chap who sold the unit to me.  He was kind to stick on a base map ..

Any thing I can try?

Regards,
Michaelb

I had a very similar problem after I fitted my pfc. Ended up being my intake gaskets :(

Anyway, might be worth a specialist checking it over.

I\'ve had similar problems in with mine when I\'ve been hooning it. I\'ve spoke to a couple of people who have had it with the apexi and they seem to think its a characteristic that sometimes happens with the apexi when its on a high powered rex. Also its well worth checking your throttle cable as  if its sticking it will surge when you press the clutch in because it will come off load.

I\'ve had an Apexi for 4-5 years now and it\'s done it right from the day it was installed.  I find the issue is after I have driven it and then stopped the car.  On restart, the idle hunts all over the place.  It\'s as if the ECU has gone back into it\'s setup mode.  It settles down and never gives any lasting issue.

Thanks for the input..

You are 100% correct, it generally happens when I get in the car and it feels like the ecu is “learning” again…no problems after words.

I hear what you are saying…I guess it may be worth checking the cable but it was no issue with standard ecu last week..

Thanks for that, but it was perfect with standard ecu last week..when I fit decat I will have to have it re-mapped

Ah right. My hunting only happens once in a blue moon after its been giving it some welly so not quite the same as what you\'re saying. Thought the throttle cable thing was worth mentioning though.
