Hi there guys im thinking of taking the plunge to a new car and im torn between a civic type r and an RX7.

The civic doenst look good but is very reliable and goes fast and is easy on fuel.

From what i can gather the rx7 is expensive to run (15 miles to the gallon average?) has to be rebuilt every 60k (how much does this cost) but is cheaper to insure (which was a surprise £850 for 2 yrs ncb and good postcode with liverpool victoria)

What are your thoughts guys and girls?

The Civics are quick as I saw at Brands yesterday.

My thoughts are though...

Civic is kind of the next step up from a modded Saxo :o

Civic is very mundane really.  Its nothing special but people will stop to admire the FD, then chase after you and all sorts :p

Whilst the FD may be more expensive to run, if you think about depreciation on the 2 cars seeing as the FD has taken its biggest hit then it may work out better.  Depends how long you want to keep it.

The FD has more tuning potential.

The Civic is driven by the wrong wheels.

As you mention, the only real plusses of the Civic would be the reliabilty and running cost.  Depends what you want really.

I would take an Integra Type R though, thats a pretty awesome machine and still pretty rare.

cheers, yeah i was thinking along the same lines. So am i right about the rebuild and high running costs? i stayed away from a scooby for the same reason

Yes pretty much, but maybe not as bad as you think.

Rebuild approx every 60k at approx 3k.

Fuel 15mpg average, so twice as much as maybe a Civic but depends how many miles you intened to do in it.

The rest of it isnt that expensive, as pads/discs, road tax etc all need to be done no matter what the car.  Prices may be a bit more expensive on some items, but probably not significantly.

Fuel is my main big one, but I worked out im better off spending on the fuel than the amout it would cost to run a 2nd car.
