Well all,

Myself and a mate are building 2 rx7\'s for Prodrift next season and they need to be ready by March for the licence day here in Ireland. We are building them from the ground up and have been advised to lose the twin turbo set up due to when the second turbo kicks in it would be too much to control going into a drift !

The goal is 400rwhp so here\'s what we were thinking :

Going for a street port, uprate the injectors, fmic, rad and single turbo conversion.

With regards to the injectors what would be enough to fuel this sort of power ?

FMIC, Which one ? Possibly a V-Mount ?

Radiator, dual or triple core ?

After a bit looking around i have seen the following turbo produce the power we\'re after but which would be most cost effective and also stand the punishment of drifting ?

GT35/40
HKS T51R Kai
Trust T78 33D / 34D
T04 E/ R

Sponsorship welcome LoL :Giggle  Seriously all advise is welcome and greatly appreciated !

Brendan.

P.S. We already have the apexi power fc\'s and commanders on the way from japan and we\'ll more than likely be going with the kaaz or cusco 2 way lsd. Clutches are a mystery at the moment !

The second and third turbo\'s you mention are wayyyy too laggy I think, I dont know about the other two, but you may want to look at a non sequential twin setup, either with the stock turbo\'s (save you a lot of money) or some uprated ones. You might not quite hit 400rwhp on stock blowers but it would be close, and power out of a rotary is hard to directly compare to piston power, you might find 300hp plenty for the job.

Um offhand I know a t70 would hit 400hp and have less lag than those mentioned, thats the main plan isnt it, to get rid of the lag? Plus it is very sturdy.

You should get 400hp from 1650 secondaries and stock primaries, plus it will keep it a bit more driveable at low revs.

I\'ve no idea about the IC, rad setup that would be best, a v mount might be very pricey if you prang the front, whereas seperate rad and ic would be easier/cheaper to replace/fix?

Good luck with the project and make sure you keep us all updated, there\'s not enough drifting on this forum! :)

400rw is kind of alot, you may want to look at one of the Bigger RB Turbos (To4Z or GT40R)

D1 WTF

aparently the GT35/40 (it is a ball bearing turbo) is not a good turbo to go for on a rex as i was adviced against getting one as the ball bearing dont seem to be able to cope with the heat.  i went t70 instead.

Ok, try telling that to every one using them :)

The only thing wrong with the GT35/40 is they need an Oil restrictor to run on a stock engine becouse they get over fed with oil.

there are advantages using a plain bearing Turbo, they are cheaply rebuildable!! a Rb core can cost anywhere fro £500-£800 plus fitting :yes

D1 WTF

lol, if pip had ordered me one from his turbo guy, it would have come with no sort of waranty at all, and the turbo guy advised against it.
i just go on what i am told, i wanted a RB turbo, but was told that it was best to not, well not this one anyway (but surely there is different companies making GT35/40\'s i dont know which company the one that i was possibly going to get was made by)

Ok, Gt Turbo\'s are a Trade mark of garrett (the Best manufacture)

I\'ve heard all sorts of things tbh about RB turbo\'s but if they are set up correctly with the right Housing size etc there is not usaly a Problem?? But as i say they cost alot to put right if some thing small goes wrong with it. All it takes is the wrong Oil flow Restrictor and you can seriously harm one.

Don\'t forget Turbonetics gave RB Turbo\'s a realy bad name in the begining by selling turbo\'s that where effectivly a plain bearing turbo with a Roller bearing on the Cold side (so they where half RB\'s if you like) and they where Poor and had bad reliability.

my personal choice for drift would be:

Greddy TD06-25G or Garrett T04S as this kits ar chep and easy to rebuild. (T04S)

You dont need 400 rwhp to get drift. 400hp at fly are fine in my oppinion.

You can try T04E with 60- comp wheel. Should give you some nice spool-up and enough torque for drift and fun.

Just my 2p.

still remember,
NO ROTOR, NO MOTOR !

TO4Z, half bridge port, no lag, 450rwhp potential.

These cars will never see road, only track for drifting and possibly time attack, more for drfiting however ! Hence the reason for such a high rwhp... We want to have the most fun possibly !

@ A7NTY : If the car in the avatar is you its amazing, i was only reading the feature on it for the 3rd time last night !

Have sourced a very sound fellow is build radiator\'s for a living and is willing to build us triple core rad\'s for next to nothing !

@ A7NTY : You welcome, amazing machine, i\'m awaiting delivery of my scoot cf bonnet at the minute, your car sold me on the bonnet, dam you LoL

I know i don\'t need 400rwhp to drift but i want to get more use out of the car than just drifting !
