So could i use the stock turbo\'s rather than go single unit ? Would this be a viable option for drifting ?

G@NDY

I would have thought stock turbos would have been better for drifting. But then again, ive never tried it:2Rolleyes :Thumbs-up

I thought so aswell however when the second turbo takes over it might be to aggressive mid drift no ?

Presumably though you need smooth delivery across the rev range rather than the \'bang\' you get when the second turbo kicks in.

Unless you go non sequential....but thats a different story...

I think twin turbos, when they\'re operating like they should should not produce any violent BANGs. Sure, its a little kick, but you should be able to compensate for it if you are willing to learn. And on the up side - if you stay above 3000 RPM once you\'ve been into sequential operation after 4500RPM, then you should not get another kick if you plan to go with PowerFC. See, PowerFC doesnt switch back down to primary turbo once the revs drop under 4500, it only does so when they drop below 3000. And this is a setting you can change I heard.

I think twins would be perfect for drifting. If you go single, you will have bigger lag and no power under 3500RPM.

Dont throw away the twins idea until you try it. They are wonderful when they work.

I have 360hp on the fly and that is on stock injectors. With powerFC and some fuel mods, ported engine, 400fly hp is easily attainable.

Thanks cruiser, thats exactly what i need, info from people who are actually running the set up\'s...

No offence to anyone but r&d can be very expensive espically when going from twin to single turbo...

Its starting to look like i could save alot of money staying with the twin set up.

cruiser

I say at least give the twins a shot. If you find it too problematic to hassle with the sequential system, you can still convert them to fully non-sequential and you will have almost single turbo like FD. Drifting is not about power, but handling and driver.

I\'ve a few mates in Prodrift here in Ireland and the chap that tunes my cars looks after 2 of the cars in the pro series... Everyone uses the SR20\'s, picked the RX7 to be different.

The reason for trying to figure out what set up to use is down to the intercooler / v-mount. Don\'t want to be waisting money from the start that i can use for tires, clutches, gearboxes etc...

I\'m guessing at this stage the TT setup would be easier just more difficult to master...

Cruiser is 100% correct ... Drifting is not about power, but handling and driver and Set up !!

Darren M has a Carolla .. running 160bhp on N/a .. Did very well in this years D1 . and doesnt have a problem against some of the 400bhp+ 200sx\'s and Liners.

I would say go twins Non sequential why not ... or single Garrett T04S or TO4Z

I think he has an SR20DET uner there mate and it is more like 300BHP :evillaugh

Kruizer

Darren McNamara is running a corolla with an SR20 since the start mate, he\'s pushing over 300bhp with anti lag !

And yes its about correct set up and skill but this is why i\'m asking what would be the best single turbo unit for drifting !

Kruizer

Kieron beat me too it LoL Darren only lives 45 mins away, his next corolla is going to be even more powerful !

#27
they were saying at Silverstone how he only had N/a 160 or 180 bhp ... as that is why he was not initiating the drift as fast as the others and was getting an advantage as they had to slow down and not get as good a drift . It was Europe v Japan event .

Edit - just asked a mate who i went with and un suprisingly i heard wrong !! lol it was Ueno running Ae86 with the 1.6.

Kruizer

@ Sy. : I often hear wrong too hence why i try and get advice on forums, at least its in writing when i break engine so i can only blame my lead right foot !
