I have imported an FD3S 1995 model Rx7 its got problems but noone seems Know what it is.
 When i first start the engine it smokes a lot then it stops but after driving the car for about 15 mins Exahust Over heat light comes on and the Exahust gets VERY HOT!!!!!Also the car feels under powered(think the turbo\'s are not coming on either).I have been told that i need a new engine but the engine doesnt over heat and whenever i drive it,it feels better then the last time.
 I put a special oil init and serviced the car which made a difference as well.
COULD ANYONE PLEASEEEEEEEE HELP ME AND TELL ME WHAT THE PROBLEM MAY BE??:3Confused :3Confused

Get a compression test from one of the specialist companies advertised on the banners above.  Its the only way to be sure about the state of the engine.

Definately sounds like that to me.

If the cat matri has collapsed it will be drastically reducing exhaust flow, creating too much back-pressure and thus poor power and performance.

In extreme cases you can get extremenly high temps in the rotors as the gas doesn\'t escape leading to over-expansion of the tips which can stick or crack.  don\'t drive on boost until it\'s fixed!!!

The engine sounds rough when i dont rev it.I can see smoke coming out the exahust so if the cat was blocked then there wont be any smoke coming out???
 If the cat was blocked would that effect the turbo\'s as well?

Simple answer to your last post mate is Y_E_S, your Cat has disintigrated and is blocking the flow. If you can go to an out of the way garage or a mate with a farm or industrial unit then take the cat off  drop the rest of your exhaust and then bolt it onto your down pipe and start her up.All you have done is got the cat out of the way. Start her up and then see how she runs.
With the cat off you will be able to tell if it\'s gone as bits etc will fall out as they have disintigrated.
If you can\'t do above then ring around the above vendor\'s close to you and see if they have a cat sat around that they can put on and test her. HTH.

I have also spoke to someone today and they recon the turbo\'s are blowen i had it on the ramp and something was leaking out of them as well.I also checked the engine and when i opened the oil cap and there was a strong smell of petrol,would this be anything to do with Turbos\'s?

You need to get your Rex to one of the above vendors asap for ahealth check. Don\'t use a normal garage as they will not have a clue. Does not sound good.:2eek

Does it smoke on Over run when its all warm?

The Smoke when you start it up does sound like a Turbo Problem, Does it get worse or better if for example you give the car some abuse then leave over night, does it smoke more than if you Drove it carfully off boost and left it overnight?

I\'ve seen this before where the Rear Turbo starts to smoke but only on cold Start up, It can be helped by Fitting a Catch tank but you realy need to plan a rebuild/New Turbo shortly.

Fuel in the Oil, This means you need an Oil change. Its not some thing to Panic about on a rotary but you do need to Change the Oil more than a Boinger (every 3k or there abouts)

There is not alot of things that will cause a Boost problem like yours, No1 on the List is the Cat!! this will also put extra Stress on the Turbo\'s and possably make them Smoke more, if you add the Fuel in the Oil to the Equation it will realy shorten your Turbo life (the Fuel will basicly Thin the oil).

I have changed the oil recently.It smokes when i first start the car but after 5 mins the smoke stops.The exhaust gets very hot so i never used it more then 30mins.Also i havent got an MOT for it as well so i cant really use it for long time.
 If it is Turbo anyone knows how much it would cost?

I sugest you have a look at the cat first, thats most likly your cause of heat, but it will have a knock on effect on the Turbo\'s too.

The oil as i say is a pain in the rear, becouse an FD has big Oil coolers an oil change will only change 2/3\'s of the engines oil.

I have a spare stock cat pipe and also a spare silenced midpipe that you are welcome to try to see if that solves your problem...
 Not too far out of London too....
