Hi All,

Very brief history...

Bought 96 RB from NewEra with induction kit and Jasma Quiet Exhaust. Cat was totalled so Pip from WGT replaced it with a straight pipe.

Now I get a lot of backfiring especially when cold and fuel cut occasionally at 4500 rpm (0.9 bar ish) . I\'ve had the car checked and it\'s running fairly rich.

How dodgy is it to keep this set up. What is the best solution? New cat or replacement ECU or something else ???

Yours worriedly

The backfiring is probably just flames, especially being decated.  I wouldnt worry about them too much.  Especially as flames are cool :cool

Fuel cut isnt good though.  The options that you listed may well all fix it so I guess it depends what you want to do and how much you want to spend.

I presume that the boost is spiking or increased because of decatting it?  You could just get a boost controller and see if that will hold the boost steady.  My EVC5 seemed pretty good at holding boost but then I had it set up properly and not installed myself.
