Tintin

Went out to take her for a spin tonight jumped in turned the key and she fired up , was running a bit rough but I figured that was because I had removed the TB coolant and all its junk , anyway rather than sitting on the drive for a minute or two I decided to drive straight off so as not to upset the neighbours but she stalled and wouldn\'t start again , figured she might have flooded but I couldn\'t de flood her by the way I used to , save taking the plugs out I used to crank her with the throttle wide open ( supposed to stop fuel being injected ) now the apexi was still showing injector duty so I pulled the egi fuse ( didn\'t know thats also the supply for the ECU ) cranked her a bit more then tryed putting the fuse back in but still no joy , I\'ll pull the plugs tomorrow and try it that way but I have the following questions/concerns

Does the WOT trick work with an apexi ? ( only just got it )
is there a way to alter the fuel map for cold start ?

My big concern is , once I\'d given up and dropped the bonnet I could hear a slight gurgling , had a quick look and listen and it was coming from the UIM/LIM also there was a slight buzzing coming from the UIM , checked the commander and it showed 1.6% injector duty ( ignition on but not cranking ) , turned her off and back on and it was back to zero , tryed cranking just to see and it stuck at 2% , whats that all about ???

Incidently she\'s just had a rebuild

antnicuk

pull start it is the best bet if you can.
400 BHP - 650 KG\'s = 616 BHP Per Ton of Rotary Power

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!

Tintin

not really , I\'ll pull the plugs

I\'m more bothered about the injector duty sticking , is it just the display freezing up or is something not right ???

Gonna ring Pip about it tomorrow , god he must be sick of me by now , I seem to be on the phone to him every other day

Tintin

Right quick update for you just in case anyones bothered and if not at least it gives me something to do coz I can\'t take my car out :(

Pulled the plugs , dried everything up and poped them back in , fired up but ran really rough for a few seconds kept trying to die then did , same story as last night wouldn\'t have it , tryed a few other things then gave up as I was getting soaked

Ended up ringing Pip , even he ran out of ideas , ended up taking 20% fuel out at 1000 and 2000 revs and will try again tomorrow , found out a couple of things though , he doesn\'t think the duty sticking is a problem and also told me that the apexi dosen\'t have a deflood ( foot on gas will not stop injecting fuel ) you have to pull the plugs

One thing I forgot to ask was may it be an idea to put 7\'s in the leading , at the moment I have 9\'s all round which is what she had in after the rebuild

Hopefully I\'ll have more luck tomorrow

Tintin

Cheers bud , I feel better now

Find it strange that apexi\'s don\'t have a de-flood feature , this used to be a great trick saved loads of messing about and my old ecu wasn\'t a stock one it was an re-amemiya one

Tintin

Right are we all sitting comfortably and ready for todays installment

After about 2 hours messing around trying to de-flood her and start her with 9\'s all round I gave up , one last go I thought and I\'ll stick the old 7\'s I had lying around in , well blow me she started first time , ran rough as a dog for ages must have been 10 mins before I could take my foot of the gas so I could put the engine back together , very smokey for a good while aswell

took her for a quick spin to warm her up then came home , gonna go for a proper drive tonight if she starts , just in case I\'ve left her on the hill so I can roll start if needed

What I found strange though was when I took the plugs out while trying to get her going the trailing were p***sed through and the leading were dry as a bone , that sound odd ???

Well hopefully this will be the last installment on this thread , if I can get her to Pips on saturday he\'s gonna give her a quick once over

Excellent, fingers crossed for you !

arrouk

a question for someone who knows what they are talking about.  OK as i see it a new rebuilt engine is still bedding in, during this process would the motor have lower compression and therefore require warmer plugs to help cold starting. would be good to know.

thanks matt

Tintin

Funny you should say that , I was just thinking about a similar thing

Just got off the phone to Pip and he was saying that for the first 100miles of run-in the seals are wearing in and improving compression as they go , so what your saying sounds about right to me

Just hope she starts okay now , once fully run-in and tuned I can hopefully go to 9\'s all round or even 9\'s and 10\'s

Tintin

Totally unrelated but a quick question for you

Does porting change the exhaust note ???

It might just be my imagination but the exhaust sounds louder and raspier than before , could this be from the large street port or do I just have an exhaust leak ???

ScuttleRX

Well I know bridge porting is meant to make it a lot louder, so I imagine any form of porting will change the sound, after all it changes the flow

Warthog

Yes porting will change you ex/note. :WaveBye

Mobilemick

Sounds like the same probs what Stu is having

Tintin

Well I\'ve had her out a couple of times now and she\'s started no bother , looks like the plugs did the trick

Mobilemick-tell stu to check what plugs he\'s got in the leading holes , acyually I remember that last year when the temps dropped I changed to 7\'s because she was flooding so its not just the fix for fresh engines
