My everyday car is an auto .95 4ltr Jeep Cherokee [Gas converted so it\'s nice and economical] Been trouble free up until recently when it\'s developed a strange fault.

It drives fine until I come off a motorway after a cruise at 70 for about 30 mins. I exit the motorway, stop at an island, pull away and the rear end shudders and shakes like the back axle is going to part company.

Within 5mins it\'s back to normal and I get no problems until the next time I go on a motorway.

Any ideas ?

So far I been offered the following suggestions.

1/  Brakes sticking - after not being used for a while.

2/  Transmission wind up.

3/  Suspension lift. It\'s been suggested that as the car cruises along it\'s ride hight increases through not breaking etc. and this shudder is just the springs [they are a bit tired] groaning as they settle down.

Any other ideas to through into the pot?

tnx

John

A friend had this, if by transmission wind up you mean the autobox sort of stays in a higher gear then this is what a friend had.

This was in a V40 though

Hi John,

As this quite a bizarre fault it may be an idea to contact an dependant Jeep specialist as they are more likely to talk openly with you because it could well be a common fault on this particular model.

Hope this helps.
All the best Clive
