Well my rex (fd) failed the mot on emissions today and as it has a decat pipe on it i may be looking at fitting a cat, i decatted as it\'s a 92 and due to the fact the old cat was fubar. They didn\'t have time to look into it so i maybe jumping the gun a bit and it might be fixable someother way (removing the pfc putting the old ecu back on temporarily maybe?) or am i looking at getting it set up on a rolling road, again.

Question is if i DO need to get a cat where would be the best place to get one from? preferably 2nd hand and as cheap as possible as long as it works.

TIA

Mark

Not positive on this but I don\'t think a \'92 car gets tested for emmisions in the same way... possibly not tested at all due to the age of it.

Someone will be around soon who should be able to give you the facts.

RX7... The Deep Pocket Rocket...

i will have a spare cat very soon....

Apparently cars registered after August 92 need a cat and sods law mine was registered in December 92 so technically it does, just my luck.

dont know how it works but my car is a 94 and it sailed through with no cats and a re amemiya ecu! mot guy sais there are different rules for rotary engined cars and they dont have the same restraints on emissions as the piston cars maybe look into garages that are aware of this. Mine passed even with the new computerised mot.

rx7veilside

after 92 uk car requires cat and full test
up to 95 import requires basic 3.5% co test and no fast idle test
after 95 all cars imported require cat and full test

Yeah he said if it can be got down to under 3.5% he would pass it, thing is what would cause it to be around 7% which it is now?

It was tested there last year with the same spec as it is now and it passed??

I am seriously considering buying the cat from the guy in the 2nd hand section though i am a little concerned about the "air pipe" none of the decat pipes i have seen on the net appear to have any extra connections on them so where would this connect on my car or is it just venting to atmosphere atm?? Guess i will probably have to get under there tomorrow and have a look.

Update, got a cat fitted and it STILL fails on emmissions, fitted the stock ecu and it STILL fails emmissions so i am basically at a loss.

Any ideas or suggestions, apart from a gallon of optimax and a match??
