My front bumper has dropped a little and opened up a bit of a gap in front of the lights and bonnet.

I had a quick look at it last week and undid all the bolts I could see under the bonnet that appeared to be attached to it but I couldn\'t lift it any more coz the metal fixing plate was hitting the bonnet catch mechanism.

I\'m guessing this is a common problem, has anyone tackled fixing it??

Is it just the few bolts in the top I have to remove to free it up?

I guess I will have to ream out the holes in the bumper bracket to allow them to slide back a bit more and I guess cut away a little bit where it\'s hitting the bonnet catch.

Any tips and advice welcome!

Rob. :)

Hi Rob.

Mine has done exactly the same. I\'m not sure how to tackle fixing it, but I thought I\'d chip in to say you\'re not alone! Likewise, suggestions are welcome if someone has done this before, body stuff is not my forte. :D

Cheers

Seen this on quite a few FD\'s.

Mine doesn\'t have a too bad fit but if I moved it then it wouldn\'t line up to the wings

mine does it try heating the bits that r dipped in a bit with a hairdryer and then push out with your hand once you got it where you want it hose it with cold water to keep it on place

dont know if this will work but it could

It\'s not deformed the plastic, it\'s the whole front has just dropped a little.

I think it is just a case of reaming out the holes a bit and pulling it back up but I wasn\'t sure if there are any other bolts apart from the few along the front under the bonnet.

i had this on my Fd and cured it by:

take out the bolts on the inside just under the bonnet behind the bumper.  You may need help, get some one strong to stand in front of the car and grab the bumper under the front numner plate in the mouth.  Then get some one else with a battery drill and some self drill bolts/screws. Tell the strong bloke to lift while you wack a few of the screws in to hold it up. Once done you can go about lputting any bolts you can back in but i didnt bother, just left the self drill bolts in. (they should be in the thin metal plate that is part of the bumper just inside the engine bay) You may need to pack under the front slightly if it needs a bit height.  It worked on mine....
Just make sure you screw the bolts through any wiring.

This piccy is when i did it,  before i did it i could fit a big enough screwdriver through the gap to open the bonnet catch.

Sold that car over 2 years ago now :Hammer   so i cant sell you the side lights but they are just cheapies from ebay, i think US not UK, but i did like them aswell.

I have trawled through my old photos and found one of just the join in the bonet,  i think i was so chuffed that i fixed it that i took a photo.

I also found a photo of before it was fixed.

Memories.....  I do miss her, spoilers are nice but there is something sexy about the way Mr Mazda intended an FD to be.  She ran 12.5 seconds consistently on the 1/4 on Khumos, i wonder how she is getting on?
anyone got any tissues:(
