Its actually compressor surge isn\'t it. Not wastegate chatter if your being technically correct.

how come i have it but still have a bov that you can hear as well? maybe i\'m lucky-i get both noises!

If you read the end of the Wiki article you will see how you can have a BOV and your cake !

Unless your running a big turbo with strong internals, the chatter noise is actually a bad thing as it\'s going to result in eventual bearing wear and shaft play in the turbo - you are actually creating a stalling force on the compressor turbine :spank

On rally cars they are not allowed the BOV, but will rebuild or replace the turbo\'s once they start going.

It should be possible to feed a pulsing signal to the BOV and make that produce a ch ch ch ch noise, by using a boost solenoid to interupt the vacuum to the BOV control valve, and pulsing it with rapid on/off pulses (555 timer and power tranny), but it will make the BOV less efficient

You will kill your standard turbos if you disconnect your BOV\'s. The shafts are tiny, and won\'t stand up to compressor surge.

Rich, the reason you can hear it sometimes is because the BOVs are designed to stay shut upto a certain pressure.

So not good .......... I love the sound but it does always sound rather painful ......... a bit like a " skidding " sound.

i read some were blitz or hks do a adjustable bov that you can allter sound from a twwwws to a chatter like a rally car?

It sounds a bit like letting the gas out of a pop bottle (particularly one that\'s been shaken :yes ) - but with a bit of a tone with it as well.

Thanks a lot for your help guys i really appreciate it hopefully gunna save enough for a rebuild and get a single turbo soon should i get the rebuild done before she proper goes bang its only got 43k on it now but i suppose there is no dead set time as when it can go??

iaint

I\'m happy to put up with the sound for now as it\'s a bloody lovely noise :)

Nah dont bother mate....It\'ll be allright, just get it rebuilt when it eventually dies.

It\'ll be much more responsive without a BOV.

The idea of a BOV is that it increases response, and cuts down on the amount of compressor surge. We run 2 BOV\'s on our car now and I have to say the old compressor surge noise seems to have completely gone.
