Im currently gathering together a few bits before one of my RX-7\'s goes in for a rebuild.  Now im keeping the standard twin turbo setup on this one, but wanted to know what would be the best setup; i was either going to go with:

1.) Koyo radiator with Apexi front mounted intercooler.

or

2.) Dragons V-mount kit.

Now im keeping the standard bonnet, so was wondering which setup would work best in this case, i know Ross\'s kit is better value for money, but thats not really an issue, just wanted to know which would be the better performing kit?

Any pictures of the above setups aswell would be appreciated. :guinness

Which Apexi FMIC are you looking at mate?

I have the GT which is the 4 row one and i must same they are the nuts

I think the V mount will suffer without some form of exit vent, only downside of FMIC is the restriction of airflow to the water rad. At best these engines produce lots of heat and anything that adds a restriction will only make it worse. If you are going with the FMIC make sure everything else is up to scratch.
V mount would be my option but with some form of additional ventilation.

Difficult choice as i would always say v-mount is better as better cooling for the rad . but the Koyo radiator with Apexi front .. will be a good set up .
*so its a pointless post as i like both sorry *

That was my only concern, about not having any form of venting in the bonnet making it less efficient for cooling.  I might consider getting a vented bonnet but I really like the stock look.

Ross, if you read this have you got any opinions?

AshRX - I wasnt aware there was different spec front mounts?  I was looking at the one on the apexi usa site.  I think it\'s the GT-spec for the stock twins...

AshRX

GT spec is mainly for single turbo but i adapted the pipework.

Apexi do another IC thats for the twins that is 2 row

I\'m going V-Mount, was recommended by re:worx when I emailed, going to get some sort of bonnet to go with it.

One thing I wondered is the undertray. In standard form it directs the air into the radiator but with a v-mount surely you don\'t want something below the radiator keeping the air behind it? Not sure my thinking is correct on this?

Oh right, thought there was only the one GT spec for the twins.  Where did you get it from and how much if you dont mind me asking?  Also how much work was involved changing the piping?

I\'d assume that it\'s the same theory as the intercooler, it needs an oulet for the air to travel through, my only concern would be, would road debris damage the underside of the radiator?

I was lucky came with the pipework to the throttle body with it as it was second nahd. Used the turbo pipe from my old XS IC and used 2 45 degree bends and joiner to fit to the IC. Al;l works fine.

Paid £400 all shipped to my door in 3 days :Thumbs-up

Nice one!  I think a new one for the standard twins retails well over a grand so you did well there!

Grizzly

What you using it for??

Drag etc is always going to be FMIC

Track/Fast road is going to be V-Mount, Smic can be used with twins but make sure it has the duct it makes quite a diffrence to the Air temps on a track day.

I don\'t think the radiator sits falt with the ground and in fact faces the back of the car more than the front so I\'d imagine it\'d get more debris through the front than from below? I\'ll let you know how I get on with mine but it won\'t be till the end of the year.

Mainly fast road with the occasional drag.  Just wanted the most efficient setup when I get the engine rebuilt.  What ever setup I go for im going to have water injection aswell.
