Having a bit of a prob with my power FC installation

Guys at the garage are saying it wont exit the inital idle set up mode, one were you leave it running for 30 mins, with air con on and rear heater etc to get a smooth idle.

Can anyone whos fitted a FC or knows about them tell me how to get it to exit this mode, or whats meant to happen, etc.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated     :)

Cheers

Updated info:

Car is running but commander wont leave the main screen and just shows the Apexi sign.

Ring a bell with anyone?

The idle learning function does not run once and then it\'s set for life. More like it adjusts all the time through use. Although it does read like this in the instructions!

You will find that idle is good one minute, then one hour down the road sat at traffic lights, the idle hunts for a bit and then settles again, this is normal.

Car\'s a \'96 Max, its in the garage at the mo so cant get the serial number yet, should be able to tomorrow though.

Cheers for info about idle, like you say manual reads like it happens once and thats it.

Am I right in saying car is ok to drive with just the ecu (temporaily) and no commander?

Yeah, you\'ll be fine running without the commander.

Sods law - you are a crossover year for ECU\'s!!!

Your FD is either a late 8 bit or early 16 bit model......different Apexi units for either :(

If you get the chance, take the cover off and read the model code off the Apexi ECU and if you have it, the original ECU that came out.

If my memorys right it was a september model so prob the 16 bit one, ill pick it up tomorrow and get all the numbers :)

Adam

Right.  For a 96/1-99/1 car like yours the ecu no. is 414-Z005  As for the commander, the numbers are the same on all models...414-X001

These numbers are all from the apexi japanese web site.

Check that the connector for the hand controller to the ecu is in properly.

Oops, I stand corrected, thanks Adam :)

I don\'t know if this can be put some where but here are the part no.s for the power FC for the RX7 FD3S

91/12-96/1   414-Z004
96/1-99/1     414-Z005
99/1-00/10   414-Z006

Comander is 415-X001 for all model
Boost kit is 415-A008

Just thought this would be useful to people

Andy\'s problem has been solved now.  I rang th tuner this morning, and asked them to try another commander, turns out the commander is faulty, so i will be replacing it or refunding him asap.

Cheers for your help guys, like Adam says all sorted now:)

Got to pick her up this morning and is running great :) taking it easy at the mo though cos my exhaust is making my 2nd turbo a little too keen, hitting 1 bar under hard acceleration and giving me a bit of fuel cut. Even driving normally I can feel the difference though, cant wait till I can really plant my right foot :)

Am i right in thinking when i get the commander on i can knock down the duty of the turbo to get it boosting to right amount again, or do i need to get the boost control kit for that?

Or maybe adjust it so it can boost to a 1 bar without fuel cutting?

maximtaylor

Welcome to the world of boost creep and spike :)

The cut you are hittng is caused by the boost going 0.25 bar above what you have asked of it. You will have a hard time to stop the spike, but you can learn to live with it.

Up the boost figures on the commander a tad to stop the cut, but keep the numbers under one bar. You could try adjusting the wastegate duty cycle values (down a bit), but experience says this won\'t help.

The size of the stock wastegate is the problem, not much you can do about it.

ScuttleRX

can you change the wastegate for a larger one or does that not make a lot of difference

maximtaylor

Nope!

Your stuck with it on the stock twins :(

You could put some sort of restriction back in the exhaust, which would help.

You can apparently get the hole made a little bigger, but don\'t think it\'ll make alot of difference.

I would just learn to live with it.....

The only real solution is the single turbo conversion, but thats a bit drastic!

I know that Phil G. had a set of twin\'s modified to have bigger wastegate holes/buttons/pennies. Not sure who is running them now!
