Probably the Ferrari OC to say his coupe is quicker 0-60

Hi Guys,

This thread has grown way beyond I thought it would,...errr Trappy does enjoy his figures ;)

The thread all started with my brief \'play\' with the RX7.

At the FCCUK, we are finding that as the Coupe gets cheaper, it is falling into the hands of younger drivers whom really after just after cheap power.
They have often not driven much else, and sometimes have the attitude that the Coupe is the fastest thing in the world and \'my cars better than yours mate\'.

You can see it on quite a few forums now, as these once expensive performance cars are now just getting plain cheap to buy.

There\'s no one car better than another, I for one have loved modifying my car, and the aim was to make it as fast as possible for the road and track, whilst still having usability for the the road and my job.

As such, the engine sees mor power, but also the suspension is heavily reworked as also the braking etc

I\'ve done advanced driving, and drag strip runs and a lot of trackdays,... nothings broken yet ;)

As it happens, I\'m planning on organising a trackday later on in the year ,when the weather is a bit cooler and the prices are cheaper,... was thinking of Brands Hatch.

Would you guys fancy coming along if I give the details when the time comes?

We\'ve had a number of trackdays meets, with the 200sx boys ,the Alfa lads and meets with quite exotic machinery. I think you may well be suprised with our little FWD scrabble wagons ;), if high power 200sx\'s and monstrous EVO\'s and Scoobys are well matched to a tuned Coupe in terms of laptimes, I think you may find the same with the RX7.

Thanks, over the next few weeks, I\'ll check out bookatrack, easytrack etc and see what\'s available.

I\'ve never done Brands Hatch before,  and some people thought the smaller circuit is not too punishing on the cars in terms of brakes and tyres, so we might go for that.

Once I get some details, I\'ll post up in the meets section. :)

Have to say I would love a passenger ride in an RX7, I\'ve only driven a mk2 turbo (almost bought one), and the mk3 just looks supercar doesnt it?:) :)

At last a sane post!! Well done Dr Frag:D  I do know that Brands are doing these introductory evening sessions that are somewhat more economic I think one was mentioned at £99 and an open pit lane, might be worth considering.
I see you are in Harts we have a tunnel run comming up in a couple of weeks and I am sure there will be plenty of guys willing to give a passenger ride.
As an alternative Brunters is a good crack.

royal

Wow, someone with sense! There\'s a fair chance I\'d be up a trackday at brands or brunters.

fly

Erk this thread got abit nasty :Hammer

Wonder if the coupe would get abit more respect for being a rather good *fundamentally flawed* car if this topic was not about a *kill* and not posted by Trappy.

Its easy to jump out and defend your pride and joy and point out its many fantastic attributes and fail to see any of its failures :Snoring

In all fairness considering most posters here have neither driven or owned both cars, conclusions drawn by "mines rwd so its better innit" seem abit uneducated at best.

Lap times around a track are only partially defined by the cars specs, many variables make a total lap time, including driver style, track layout, driver ability, weather conditions, driver experience, suspension setup, driver\'s knowledge of track etc.

If you put a novice who drives their M3 in central london all day up against Michael Schumacher in a 1.8L Mondeo around monaco, i know who my money would be on :3gears-lh .

Alot of professional drivers in championships such as the Megane Trophy, Carrera Cup, Caterham Cup would mince the top modded RX7s or Fiat Coupes around any track you would care to mention in there sometimes privateer low spec cars.

And stepping into a big minefield with this one:

You actually think the rx7\'s biggest ability worth bragging about is as a five star trackday car? :p

Think about it, go read a magazine, browse the web, then think about it again.

If you come to the conclusion of yes, you really need togo and check out what serious enthusiasts buy for track days.

Radical

Ultima

CSR

And i bet the OTR price of these cars is less than the amount of money spent on the top *powered* rx7s in the country.

And Fiat Coupes.

fly

Im up for that trackday frag:)

And i demand a passenger ride in track biased rex then require restraint as i attempt to mug the owner for its keys :)

Thruxton is supposed to be a relatively low impact track for the moneypits we drive.

Should have my GT28RS fitted by then as well :p

Adriansturgess

Those Ultima vids are amazing.  OK, the performance is very impressive for a stock car but the time/terminal speed consistancy was equally impressive.
FD or not FD? that is the question.

fly

Hehe the donington clips are the best imo, the way it reels in some of the hardware there is mighty impressive.

doctorfrag

Yes I\'d heard about the evening sessions for Brands as well, these might be ideal.

I did Bruntingthorpe a couple of years ago, that was fun, but it was a very abrasive circuit and I stupidly had nearly new Goodyear F1\'s on, and they were wrecked by the end of the day.
Luckily all the proper \'tarmac\' tracks I\'ve driven on have proven themselves reasonable in terms of tyre wear :)

The Fiat coupe is certainly not a track car, but it doesnt stop us guys having regular track outings in them, and most of all having a lot of fun.:D

The last track I did was last year at Cadwell, there\'s a challenging circuit, and it was tipping down with rain which only added to the drama!

Fly, I might have missed, but reading your replies suggests you don\'t drive an RX7, what do you drive now? I\'m interested as I fitted a GT28rs last year to my Coupe? its a cracking turbo.

At the end of the day, thats what it\'s all about, enjoying your car and having fun :Thumbs-up
