Help in identifying rattly rear end is required!!! I come from the king of bushing earing cars, the ST205 Celica GT - complete with super-slut suspension, as i affectionately remember it!!! The mazda is a different ball game as the rear doesnt look obviously loose or worn but since I put on 19" rims i have noticed suspension knock to accombany the budgie that dwells in my but (gas struts sound knackered)

Any help or advice on similar problems and solutions much appreciated. PS im driving a 1992 FD3S running on 19\'s with full mazdaspeed/bilstein coilovers.

Hi Chris,

Might sound too obvious (and probably is) but the \'budgie\' noise might be the rubbers round the rear hatch.  they\'re prone to squeaking like a squeaky thing!

If the knock has only come about since fitting the new rims make sure they\'re not fouling anything - check for signs of rubing/wear up inside the arch area.  THis would be pretty rare for the rears though - the fronts tend to rub if things aren\'t \'just so\'.

if its a knocking try the rear toe links i\'v had these go on both my FD\'s. Its the adujstable link on the rear wheel from the hub to the car just in front of the break disc (or on the right as you look at it  :) )

As iaint said check the boot it could also be this thats knocking try moving the boot catch down a little there is usually a little room for movement.

Mine moves and I swear this is the noise thats driving me insane.

How do you cure it ?

If your talking about the boot, pull off the cover that goes over the boot catch (on the car not the boot lid), slacken off the 2 bolts push the catch down and tighten them back up. Job done

had figured the boot latch thing was something to do with the squeeking but the knocking sound definately sounds suspension clunky. sounds almost top mount type knock.....no fouling on the arches by wheels. was present when the standard 16\'s were on but is more pronounced now. I remember i pu in shocks/link arms and drop links on my GT4 rear and it still rattled, turned out to be the anti roll bar mounting rubber block, 75pence after 300 quid spent D\'OH!!!!

Just trying to find experience now, will try these toe links...... heard of noisy a arms as well??? anyone had this problem, cars are all so tight wear is hard to find

when do you get the knocking??? Is it on deccelleration? over bumps, when your going quick or slow?

chris_m006

knocking seems to occur over bumps only and is most noticable when the bump is hit while cornering. seems to be very little rumble noise when bumps hit in straight line, front hasnt even a tiny tweet from it which is annoying me more......only thing i have noticed is that I have mystery ghost steering now with big wheels on, dreaded tramlining has begum when i go over 70mph, nothing major but obviously 1 downside to big rims/tyres

chris_m006

another update - seems to be only at low speeds and more a rumble than a knocking i suppose....beginning to convince myself its the snti roll bar bushings!!!

anyone any prices for such things, roll bar bushings? to links -full part or bushing that presses in?? etc

chris_m006

free bump for a sunday!!

Anyone got experience in how much free play the toe links should exhibit?? I have her jacked up and the links have play at the bushing as in i can rotate them a few degrees......perhaps normal?

All other ones feel pretty tight, maybe my a arm bushings need replaced, read somewhere the early fd\'s were noisy in this dept
