My first drift comp at Silverstone after 1 airfield practice day...

The track was dry, and upon seeing it all up close it is some what imtimidating to think about going round sideways.  Especially compared to small airfields, so I was glad of the 4 hours practice time before the comp started.

Lots of stoppages as people go stuck in the gravel, which was at least something I didnt do even though I went through it once and also clobbered a bollard sideways (which done no damage).

In practice I done some good bits, and also some bad bits.  Im not really good enough to string the whole lot in one run, but then not many people were and especially not consistently.  I was trying to do most bends in 2nd, but around luffield and priory this would hit the limiter, and as the day wore on and my tyres got worse this made it spin up even quicker.  In afternoon practice I got more confident and carried more speed and used 3rd for these bends, to much greater effect.

Onto the competiton, and first stage was 33 drivers down to 20.  Although it was my first real time out, I wanted to make this cut.  Had a good run throguh Priory and managed to carry the slide all the way down the straight with a flick into Brooklands.  Was very pleased, only a couple of people got the straight.  Had problems flicking Brooklands into Luffield and went round Luffield with both rear wheels on the outside grass, but kept it sideways and didnt spin.  That was enough to get me into the next round :)

Next round I spun trying to drift the straight between Priory and Brooklands, so figured I had nothing to lose and really went for it round the rest.  Ended up going a mile into the grass before luffield trying too hard so that was it, but lots of other people had bad runs so I probably wasnt too far off amking the top 10.  I was in good company as Richard Meaden from Evo magazine didnt make the next round either!

I had a great day, and some great moments.  I was almost jumping in my seat the one time in practice I linked Brooklands into luffield onto full oposite lock.

Will post some pics as and when I come across decent ones.

Cheers

Awesome Drifting.

What is the reference to D1.
Are the Jap guys coming over there?

J4P RX

Nah, they just call it UK D1.  Guess its to make a link to the Japanese series.  Fair enough I suppose, its what I would do if I was running it.

Thats cool. But dissapointing for you guys.
It may not be long though.
The USA series was awesome and they had a sold out crowd.
I would estimate 20-30 thousand. So X fingers in UK.

Ill post an Update of the D1 Japan series in another thread

Btw. That pic of you all crossed up is sweeet indeeed.

Russ.
