Think i killed my headunit!

i was driving home yesterday when the sound in both right hand speakers cut out.  about a minute later the left speakers faded away with a bit of a crackle too.  now there is nothing!  music still plays through it as the bar equaliser still moves, but no sound-not even the usual beeps from the headunit can be heard.:eek
 
it\'s a Kenwood PS-9080R, a pretty good headunit although it is a few years old now.  has anyone got any ideas as to what it could be? :xconfused   maybe a failed internal amp?  i\'m not running anything off it apart from 2 rear speakers, a set of front components, and my mp3 player via a box that plugs into the cd changer lead.
