Oh! sorry, too many colins (Seeley was team manager of Duckhams Norton)

Quote from: antnicukThe other problem would be that it isnt road legal (i assume) so it wouldnt be able to compete.
:2eek OMG!! Good point... Big problem!!?

Hi all,

Almost all of the Drag Cars in Australia now are built based on the Sport Compact Drag Racing rules.

The RX-7 in Question is a Pro RWD car.  Class Regulations here:

PRO REAR WHEEL DRIVE â€" HEADS UP - CLASS REGULATIONS

Class Designations: PRO/R followed by driver’s competition number.

Designed for purpose-built, Pro Stock style sedans/coupes or derivatives with minimal rules restrictions. Full tube chassis and racing slick tyres permitted.

Minimum Weights:

4-cylinders smaller than 3.0 litre (any power adders): 1,900 pounds/ 863kgs

2-rotor (any power adders): 1,900 pounds/ 863kgs

3-rotor (any power adders): 2,100 pounds/ 954kgs.

Any 6-cylinder, or 4-cylinder 3.0 litre or larger (one power adder): 2,350 pounds/ 1068kgs

Any 6-cylinder, or 4-cylinder 3.0 litre or larger (two power adders): 2,450 pounds/ 1113kgs

More rules and details here: http://www.andra.com.au/technical/SCREGS0405W.htm

The car would pretty much be for Demonstration anyways.  Top Fuel cars here run very good numbers on the tracks available - if they can get the power down (obviously on a prepared track) then the RX-7 will be able to also.

AGAIN!!!!!!!! This probably won\'t happen of course, but I\'m really glad it has everyone thinking about it :)
Thanks,

Norton

So even if it ran 7 sec we wouldnt be able to claim that a Rotary beat Keith Cowies Skyline... someone get the 8 sec RX7 road car packet mix and a wooden spoon out of the cupboard.

I will race anything on the day,i dont have a problem with this car if it comes over to the UK.

But i think that everyone else will, rotorstock is looking to get bigger and better every year.
But as soon as you let full drag cars with tubbed rear ends enter :Nono!
that will stop people coming to this top event.

I dont want this event going back to what the first rotorstock event was like.

RS is first and foremost meant to be focussed around ROTORS, and \'most\' of those attending the last 2 years have been rotary-orientated or owners. So any thing rotary-based thats going to give value to us lot watching is good in my books. And frankly considering the membership numbers these days I reckon we wouldnt be too far off making it Rotor-only a la a Sevenstock-type event :Thumbsup! Frankly with all the \'big boys\' from the piston fraternity that have let us down on attending over the last couple of years i really hope this happens soon. Dont get me wrong, the guys like yourself and Adrian who have given your support are complete gents and will always b welcome - shame some of the others in the JapShow pro class appear to have their heads so far up their own arses!

As for tubbs, its a natural progression - if you build RWD cars esp. All the 4WD crew I\'m sure will be more than happy to have them outlawed for eternity whilst it gives them a massive advantage in the 60 ft. Makes me laugh when you have Evos and Skylines that have had \'000s spent on them and that are never used on the road, that have been cut in half and put back together etc etc masquerading as street legal blah blah and then people spit the dummy about RWD guys trying to level things by doing what they can to get a bit of traction :D

I think Calder have the right idea with a 9" and a 4 link r/end, with mini tubs I assume, may be just stratched original tin? Alternatively, all the 4WD people run with all power to the rear end - then we can all play on the same playing field and no one need chop any thing :)

Couple of years ago no one ran any thing but normal street rubber. Now they run drag slicks of some sort. Things progress, its inevitable.

Anyway, lets hope a few more of the Rotors put up a bit better show next year whatever the rulings are and whomever is running...

Yay, rant over :D Happy xmas Keith.

Hi Keith
I agree, if a car like this which didnt conform to the rules ran at Rotorstock III it should be as a demo not as a competition entry (just like the jet cars).
Of course, the rules might be changed in years to come... or not.
\'what the first rotorstock event was like\'... sorry, i\'m being a bit dim... what do you mean?

I thought that the paying public was not very happy, that there was not many
of the invited cars running at Rotorstock 1.
Clive got a lot of stick about the event on the day and after the event
on most of the car forums, shame as it was not his fault that the cars did not turn up.

Most of the people said that they would never go back there, because of the above
but now with the success from this year it will move forward big time.

I think if tubbed drag cars are allowed to run it will ruin the event, this is the one
rule that is not allowed at TOTB,the organizers there know if they were to let a
tubbed car enter that would be there big downfall.

Also the land owners need as much people through the gate to make these
Rotorstock events pay

This is only my opinion so don\'t read into it to much.

theres nothing ilegal about a tubbed car, if its road legal and MOT\'able it should be able to run. This road legal thing won\'t last long anyway ... a lot of the top cars are nowhere near legal at the moment anyway ! ;)

Dont think any one here wouldve said that - but as you say you cant blame MRC for the fact that the invited cars let us down at the nth hour. I\'d like to think MRCs membership and vendor support is getting close to being able to afford to stage RS without reliance upon other marques and thus edging closer to acheiving what was set out i.e. a european sevenstock-type event (I tihnk/assume?).

3/4 of the tubbed rotaries in the world are probably more legitimately road legal than 1/2 of the Pro pits at JapShow for e.g. Theres a big difference between a mini tubbed coupe and a full chassis monster though admittedly. As for TOTB - who cares - its a jack of all trades event run to the detriment of any thing thats not 4WD; the drag section is on rough concrete upon which ohh, 4wd\'s have an even bigger than normal advantage - and RWD and FWD arent allowed to run a decent tyre as an equaliser - which would actually make the event more than a 3 horse (4wd of course!) race. The handling track section also largely favours 4wd or has done from the years i\'ve been and the feedback i\'ve heard from those competitors I know.

I\'d rather see it subsidised and more in our control, as un/realistic as this may be on paper I dont know. However, give SCR their dues anyway; the guys that run the track at the non-pro events really know their stuff and seem to have a far greater appreciation of the cars than the muppets at Pod - they are used to RWD and bother to prep the track properly for them - pod shouldve been done for safety at JapShow Finale as it was nothing short of dangerous for the RWD boys - all for the sake of keeping the plebs in the (largely non-Jap!) chav-mobiles happy on the RWYB all day... Some how SCR never seems that busy and that que\'s are never unbearable STUPID like Pod - but yet they must still see the RWYB days as finiacially viable.

I dont know who decides upon the rules for RS - are they governed by others or does the club decide?

Yeah we know m8 - and as one of only a couple of the big jap guys who have been ARSED to show up to date - its very much appreciated and respected - regardless of my whinging above :)

Happy Christmas Keith,

Hi Keith, all, just as a point of discussion,  i seem to remember Ronnie put an all singing/dancing gearbox in his Skyline,  this obviously gives more traction, there isnt that much difference in putting a different rear axle in a RWD to give more traction,  and if that means modding the arches to fit the tyres under (road legal of course) is there really a lot of difference.  Obviously if its a full fabricated chassis its different than just a tubbed read end.

either way, i just want to see as many fast cars there as possible, at the end of the day, there will always be rules and people will always have differences of opinion,  but thats what makes things interesting.
400 BHP - 650 KG\'s = 616 BHP Per Ton of Rotary Power

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!

Carl

What is interesting is that if you look on Ausrotary, the car in question to be invited has not done a 7 second run yet.Anyway I think it is all a bit hyperthetical really.I would be very suprised if it happens.
Still it would certainly be well worth watching.

Carl
