Quote from: 20B_boyI dont know who decides upon the rules for RS - are they governed by others or does the club decide?

(RE:Worx)

WE DECIDE ON THE RULES!!!(As a club representation) It was a tad difficult to get the F1 and F2 classes implimented for RSII, as the main organisers in the club didn\'t Appreciate the benifits. As the rules state, the car needs to be road legal, with drag rubber for F1(Pro) and road legal tyres for F2(street/RWYB)
BTW, is the Red Calibra that frequents Santa Pod not Semi Tubbed and road legal??

Merry Xmas!!

Theres also some thing in the rules about \'drag\' cars isnt their? does this exclude cars with had non standard rear axles? what about modified wheel arches? And if u want to get picky - what about wide-arched cars that are thus able to run a wider rim/tyre combo? is one excluded and the other not?

I would have assumed it would be full tubbs and full chassis as its runs 7s or some thing? That just highlights the ludicrousy of saying the F1 cars msut remain road legal...whats that mean!!?!

Hi All, I hope you had a good Christmas.

I have read this thread with interest and have decided to clear a few things up !!.

A few of you may know this but I have had some experience of Drag Racing and raced for one complete season winning The Southern Drag Drivers Championship ( best bit was Stirling Moss presented me with a silver cup at the end of year ceremony for it), anyway I have told you this so you know I know a little about Drag Racing ( I did say a little before you jump on me) and have kept ties with the sport loosely since.

I devised the Rules initially myself after discussions with Lee the tracks promoter, with my biggest stipulation being that whilst the rules needed to be as simple as possible they could be subject to "any" alteration if the need arose, if you read below you will also see that I do indeed appreciate the difference between a pure Race Car, a F1 car and an F2 car and that we totally reserve the right to exclude either a Race car or a car competing in the wrong class !.

Keith is right the first year was an unmitigated disaster due to myself getting it wrong after believing all those so called "superstars !" out there who told me down the phone they would be there after I spent a lot of time on the phone explaining that for once they would really be racing on the lights properly and there would be none of this mamby pamby "O look the lights have changed, think I will go when I am ready" at Rotorstock and didn\'t nessaceraly need the fastest car there to win !

I can only figure that a lot of these guys were scared of "real racing" at that time as most had never been in a proper Drag Elimination competition in there lives, (other than Ron Kiddell that is) and didn\'t appreciate that the quickest car does not always win when Drag Racing proper takes place and we witnessed that this year with Adrian having had a very good chance of beating Keith in the main Final.

Both Lee and Martin Vincent ( Ed of Jap Performance) warned me that "invites" were a crazy idea, and it came to pass that they were right and I was wrong as I honestly believed these guys would turn up !!

Whatever, we should all be proud that MRC staged the first ever proper American style "import Drag Racing"  for Japanese cars only in Europe.

As Keith knows, for 2005 I took the stance that with Rotorstock being the only Championship on offer for these cars, " if you think you have a car quick enough to compete and the balls to race properly", "BE THERE" which is a philosophy that will be applied to next years Rotorstock 3

The biggest change you will see for Rotorstock 3 will be more emphasis placed on Front wheel drive cars as these by far make up the bulk of the cars running at Rotorstock, meaning we will ensure they have their own competition within the Rotorstock competition.

BTW, All this talk of a 7 second Race Car possably coming to Rotorstock 3 has been totally lost and misconstrued along the way, i.e.  IF the car came it would only be billed as an attraction doing demo  runs at Rotorstock, because the rules quite clearly exclude this type of car anyway.

HERE ARE THE RULES for The Japanese Street Fighter Championships

Japanese Street Fighter Championships (JSFC) 2005

The following are the competition rules for the JSFC.  The potential to qualify for this is open to all drivers who have signed on to take part in the RWYB sessions.  No other registration will be required.

JSFC - Rules

a) The Japanese Street Fighter Championship is for ROAD DRIVEN CARS, Japanese Cars with Japanese engines ONLY.

b) Competition will be split into two classes,

F1 will be for \'proven road cars\' .  These cars will be taxed + MOTed but will be free to run Drag tyres, but must remain in the \'\'spirit of the rules\'\' i.e. no out and out pure Drag race cars.

F2 will be for \'\'proper driven to the track normal fully fledged road cars only\'\'. Running on full conventional tubeless street tyres, ( no Drag cheat tyres, such as BF Goodrich, MT, Hoosiers etc. This will be an equaliser as it will not matter how much power you have because the grip will not be there to use it.)

c) F1 or F2 will be painted on the cars windows in white at scrutineering so spectators know what class a car is running in.  In addition for F2 FWD/RWD/4WD classifications will also be displayed.

d) The car class is to be declared when scrutineering/signing on so the onus is on the driver to declare his chosen class.

e) These cars will be checked in the fire-up lane on a regular basis, and any driver found with the wrong tyres in F2 will be excluded from the meeting.

f) Both classes will run on pump fuel but additives are allowed, i.e. NO METHONOL etc.

 g) Please note the decision as to whether a car is eligible to compete in either class will be taken by MRC. THIS MAY HAPPEN BEFORE, DURING OR AFTER THE MEETING AND THE CLUBS DECISION WILL BE FINAL.
All the best Clive

Carl

Hi Clive,
Perhaps there needs to be an out and out class now for Japanese cars that do not have to be road legal?Say an F0 for "F open" class?
ie: they might be almost completely open in that they must have Japanese engines and resemble a Japanese car (Or even include all far eastern cars such as Korean,Malaysian, and others) but tubbed and extremely modded can compete against one another?
It might push the boundaries even further over here for the really serious cars.
Some of the so called F1 cars are not really road legal anyway, not in anything but name anyway.I can\'t see alot of them passing a true MOT.
Before anyone say\'s that there are not enough cars to compete,we need to start somewhere,it is no good waiting until there are enough cars to compete because no one will be inclined to build a car for the event if it has nothing to compete in.

What does everyone think??

Regards
Carl

As I have mentioned in the past, I would like to see the rules and regs. go down the more professional route of Sport Compact, like in the States, Oz, NZ, etc.

The Rules and Regs. are and will be a huge issue for everybody.  Something does need to be put in place - perhaps 2007, 2008.

I personally can\'t believe that there are almost NO safety rules for Drag Racing in the UK.  Even Lee (SCR Track Director) has said that if there were any huge accidents that he would be extremely concerned about his future doing what he is doing (if these rules and regs are put in place, then he would have a lot less to worry about - at least he has done the most he can).  This is motor racing, there are rules and safety regs. in place for a reason in the US, Oz, NZ, etc..  Cars are now tech. inspected before they can run, licence passes need to be obtained, tail shaft loops are standard (rear wheel drive), roll cages are standard for cars running under 11.99 second passes (I think it is 11.99). And much more.

To me it appears to be a free for all type thing that is really scary when you think about it.  I myself would rather be sitting in a car to go down the strip that comply\'s with at least the minimum safety requirements.

This is a WHOLE new area of course, it needs to be explored sooner rather than later.

As for the classes, again - I think the UK should follow the world standards to make all the classes more even, so there really is something in it for everyone.  It doesn\'t matter if your car isn\'t the fastest in the UK, it matters more for your car to be fastest in its class (on a level playing field).

These rules and regs. have been drawn up over time, and are in place now around most of the world.  The UK should follow suit - even if it is just for the safety issues.  Then the Class issues should be looked at and introduced (again slowly but surely).  Why make up a whole new set if they exist already? not only would you be on the same level playing field as the rest of the world, but it would really be a true indication of how the cars are running against the rest of the world. To eventually set-up world Titles, etc. etc.

I personally can\'t wait to see proper tubbed rotor\'s running down the strip! :)

The issue of being Road Legal won\'t be an issue if Class Rules and Regs. are put in place - that is my feeling.  For example: the issue of being Road Legal in Australia is not really brought up anymore - but it was certainly an issue a few years ago.
Thanks,

Carl

I agree with you Glen.
Safety should be the paramount thing in all of this.

There is a l;ot of info on this topic.....where does my lil 2 fit into all of this ?...do i run her in the street classes (she MOT\'d and insured..not registered) or would she catergorised as a tukka all out drag car ? The question is simple...do I put all the go fast stuff in the Rx7 and stop working on the lil one ?........dont want to waste time.....this thread is really getting to tech.....not your fault but a lot of questions out there.... :xconfused

Totally agree with all of the above, well said Glenn

Rich...not here to be picky. You asked who decides the rules...
Glenn, what you have said must be the logical progression of RS. Safety will no doubt pick up, but the class system needs to be implemented asap. A good show with prizes awarded to more classes/people makes the the following show bigger. Fact.
Added to that...Surely RSIII would be an opportune time to introduce a Pro class.

Yep...umm, and? It appears we do? In which case I vote we have another class at least so cars like Goodings can at least run as more than an extra...or the existing F1 class is expanded which it sounds like would prob be frowned upon.

I totally agree with John and Glenn - to make up ground on the rest of the world and to progress RS...

For me safety should be the first issue. Some off you know that I crashed a car going you the strip. One thing that saved me was the neck brace i was wearing, I felt my head go when the back stepped out. IF I had not been wearing the brace not sure if I would off been concious. I do agree on the classes for cars BUT surly safety comes with it. "Cars over 100mph must have additional safety equipment" a quote from santa pod and sheaksphere time slips. A system needs to be setup for this to be controlled. Like the cars having there class writen on there windows, so should H be put on meaning at least helmet required.

Bloody hell, this sounds like the MRC wants to start an NHRA set up over here!

I think this is going way over the top now!

When I first got involved and up until recently, I honestly thought, right, ROTORSTOCK, an annual session and gathering of fellow rotary owners getting together and showcasing their stuff.. hence the name \'rotorstock\'!

Now it\'s just another Japshow/meet like all the rest out there...
What makes it different? What makes this something to do with the Rotary?...
I honestly don\'t know.. cause it seems even the organizing and set up is totally out of the clubs hands....
Rotorstock is just another Japshow on the calendar for 2006 it looks like!

Trex,
You don\'t have to come mate,don\'t feel obligated in any way.

I personally would like to see a new proper drag class implemented this coming 2006 year if possible, even if only one car came it would be a start, and the sooner it is started the sooner it takes off.

I very much agree that RS should be ROTORSTOCK Dom, if the club has any cash spare then I would def vote to throw it at gaining as much control as poss over how future RS\' operate. Though I assume there is still a (financial) viability issue if it is not sold as another jap meet to get the numbers in?? RS should be Rotor-only if poss like 7stock -which i assume was the original vision? We may have to be patient as to when that happens I guess.

I dont think the \'rotary content\'-issue should effect changes in categorys tho; we should encourage rotors to go as quick as poss by whatever means surely? that doesnt have to be at the cost of others jsut having fun still...

Presumably the only way that can happen is if the new breed of rotary owners can be drawn in in sufficient numbers (the RX8 owners)... yet again... IF ONLY Mazda would get more involved  :reallymad
