Been mulling over the options for the 323 now that the suspension is nearly sorted (still need some Series 2 front flexi hoses if anyone knows where I can buy some new ... not found anywhere yet)

and I\'ve come up with 3 options so far

1. (most favoured)
a 12a, I\'ve been looking for a while now but nothing has really inspired me to part with some cash. I\'m really close to asking round for quotes for a nice rebuild ... of course it wouldn\'t be standard :) unless anyone else can think of some options. I\'d even been eying up motors on Ausrotary  :o (not really fair on the UK scene I feel)

2. (the dark side)
A Mazda 323 Gti engine on mx5 box ... I\'ve found a real soft spot for these engines as a) they are cheap and b) I can\'t believe the amount of abuse they endure and still put out respectable HP and torque.

3. (a bit too much work for a slacker like me with too many toys err. projects)

A 13b 6 port has been offered, but they are side mount and fuel injected so theres a few more bits to worry about (I don\'t want to bite off more work than I can cope with)

or mystery option 4 ?!

Carl

The 13b that I have offered can easliy be front mounted just by changing the front cover for a 12a one Mike.
The main thing you need to know is will you have to modify the sump for the subframe?

Its the the fuel injection thats bugging me most. Theres not a great deal of wiring in the 323 and I\'d like to keep it that way :)

I suppose the other option is to keep the standard engine for a year or so and maybe look at getting somthing suitably "angry" for it next winter.

No,No,No,.......
You only need a six port lower inlet manifold and the top part from racing beat to mate to a dellorto carb.Easy as.

do they still run a dizzy ? ... I\'ve got a 12a in bits so a front cover is easy to find. Is the front cover an easy swap ?

A good complete 12A (freshly removed from a rusty RX-7) was on ebay not long ago and it went for just over £50. Keep your eyes peeled and you should be able to score a bargain.

here is something silly
How about the 1800cc Mazda GTX lump. (tiurbo and inj)
Then fashion that to a Quaiffe Box to run front and rear wheels.

For gods sake slap me.

Not sure yet still waiting on price.

For rally scene i would keep it simple cos you might need to do some roadside repairs....stick with something you can understand and manage at that moment without a laptop or gizzmo\'s to get it sorted, stay within your running budget and have something that your crew understand and can work on...

I have a 12a and box going spare! :-)

Best combo ever imo. I can get brand new IDA\'s for $980. I\'m gonna pick one up when I go back in May :evillaugh
