Mark, what sort of condition is the 12a in ? I take its an early one too so has the smaller ports ?

sadgoth

out of the mk1 (1980/81)

runs but is a bit smokey, not sure whether it\'s burning off the oil residue from the exhaust. I replaced the oil control rings and water seals recently, the apex seals and housings are in good nick (Tim at RX motors agreed that they were certainly reusable)

hmmmmmm ... 12a or 13b

Can you mail me an asking price for the 12a please.

kiwimazda

I got a price on the 48 IDA and 13b manifold.
Matey wants £500 plus freight.
The freight to my Ma and Pa,s house would be £10 and freight to the UK should be FREE in my suitcase.
Any Takers let me know ASAP

No offense to your mate but that\'s quite expensive!

He has spent over $1400 NZ on this and afterspeaking to Carl  the conclusion was that this was a good price as you will know after also speaking to Carl.
I can let you know the jet sizes etc if you wish
All I am trying to do is a favour for him.
I am sure he can sell it at home but as they are a Little harder to get now days It is an opportunity to get one.
Cheers

what\'s the difference between an IDF and an IDA ? ... the IDF\'s seem to be much more resonably priced.  (that IDA on Ebay didn\'t look to be in too good a condition and still fetched almost as much as a new 48DCOE)

Ray

Hi Mike,

Stud patterns are different. IDF has a choke mechanism. IDA\'s are bigger bore. IDA is very much a competition designed carbuettor. A single IDF would probably be OK on a 12A, but you\'d be in the dark regarding jetting and you\'d need to make up / modify the manifold. IDA\'s are so popular that you could get the jetting pretty near just by asking on the forums.
IDA\'s do sound good, but i\'d imagine it\'s overkill on a standard engine, my preference on a standard engine would be a sidedraught weber or dellorto... cheaper as well...

I think a sidedraft would be plenty good enough for me, this won\'t be a rally car, just a toy so outright performance isn\'t an issue.

anyway ... I\'ve been busy this weekend  :evillaugh

mullins

Funny lookin 12A

Not a Rotor but good work none the less. You really have been busy mate!!  ;) Is there an MX-5 knocking around you ways with no engine?? Let me know if there is!

MikeLMR

Gotcha ... not my car :) but it does sit nicely.

a 12a is still my 1st choice I think, I\'ve been told a series 4 box needs bodywork mods + the gear lever is 100mm out of place.

mullins

Damn, fell into your evil trap  :evillaugh

kiwimazda

Yeah evil trap.
I also would have taken an MX5 less engine and box

MikeLMR

I must admit I\'m sorely tempted by an 1800 lump

Got plenty of work to be getting on with at the moment though ! ... I still need to fit the brakes (got all this bits sorted now)
