Hi All,

My first post here as I\'m having a bit of trouble.  Have seen a few posts about emissions but unfortunately none of them really had the answers I was looking for...

Basically my 94 FD has failed the MOT on emissions, it was tested using the more forgiving test; CO2 <= 3.5% and HC <= 1200ppm, but mine was just over the limits getting 4.25% on the CO2 and some 1400-1500 on the HCs.

My long term aim is to get a new ECU (APEXi PFC), but at the moment I need a new clutch so funds are a little low, basically was wondering if there\'s a simple way to reduce the amount of emissions for the test by leaning up the mixture and then putting it back afterwards?  That will give me time to get the new ECU.

The car has a straight through centre section with backbox from the guys at Dragon, APEXi intakes and a GReddy EBC, aside from that it\'s pretty much standard at the moment.

Thoughts and ideas would be appreciated.  :-)

Cheers.

Ok, after doing a bit more research have read some stuff about a catch tank that can be purged...

From FD3S.net
QuoteThe most important THING you can do is to empty the catch tank that is mounted belown the TB. It gets full of fuel and lets off emissions at that range... Use an air compressor.

Anybody know if this will lower the emissions enough for the UK MOT?

Edit:

Ok, have found a lot more posts on the MOT and emissions here and elsewhere, have read a lot about turning the air con on for the test and also making sure the tester revs the car at 2,500rpm and not 3,000 due to the air pump not coming on (although this probably doesn\'t apply for me with a decat).

I also have a gauge to control when the engine cooling fans come on, would it be worth adjusting this so they come on a lot later and don\'t stress the engine anymore than is needed?

Any more tips?
