Ooooh interested, please forgive the probably dumb questions :

Turbo & manifold from the same car?
Is the turbo identicle to mine?
How many miles on it?

To be honest I have no idea what to even offer for wither the tubbie or manifold (i\'ll leave the HKS jobbie for now thanks) so what would you want for them delivered?

Cheers :)

I\'ve just read through this entire thread... phew! Impressive stuff though. You\'re putting a lot of hard work in, but it must be really satisfying.

Any more updates?

Ricco_04

Hi there,

Yeah, a lot of work and it\'s actually a joy to do, when you step back and see all the little bits start to make a difference.  I will have to go through the most recent pictures and do a bit of an update.  There may may not be much to see but the hours have slowly gone in. :)

I have been sanding the bay down and priming it up ready for another rub down and fresh paint.  Gotta have the radio on and listen to some quality tunes, time just flies by :D

I dunno. You can get one thats petty sweet (Other than the usual little gremlins!)for that sort of money. Mines not bad and I didn\'t pay much more than that.
I don\'t need to upgrade my stock turbo to beat your ass!

Get your finger out, get it on the road and start driving it then!!! (B.Martin 25/2/12)

ah fair dooze, maybe the rest are overpriced?

ahhh ha ha ha!  That cheerd me up! :rollin

No not quite got one yet.  To say progress is poor is a right understatement.  I havn\'t even got round to updating this like I said I would!  I have been working on it, honest guv! :bandit

I must must must do an update first.  Plans are at the moment :

I have got to see my local garage to see when they can come and collect the car so they can have it up on the ramps to get the old welder on the floor.

Once they have done tha t I can start putting the front end back together :)

In the meantime I want to get the block assembled complete with inlet manifolds on.  I need to save for the turbo and manifold before I can bolt those and the downpipe on. and then Once done I can lower these and the gearbox back into place :)

I\'ll try and upload some pictures in a few days :)

Brett

Cool, theres been some good hybrid turbos on ebay.com recently ;)

Ok time for quick catch up!  There is a bit more than this, just going to write the rest in a bit :)

Exhaust heat shields for the tunnel have had all the crap and oxidation sanded off them:

Then a couple of coats of high temp paint on for good measure:

Rear Cans and \'Y\' pipe from the exhaust has had the same treatment too:

Had a little bit of arch rust so out with the rust, dab of filler and has since been covered with some white hammerite to keep the elements

off - the hammerite will be sanded off again when it\'s time for painting proper:

I have also been under the car renewing the underseal.  I have been
cleaning it with a wire brush and exposing any areas that have started
to flake and show rust underneath.  I have probably done about 30% of
the floor now.

While I was underneath I took off the middle two exhaust hooks and gave
them a makeover :wiggle

I also decided to give the standard wheels from the FD a try.  The FD
wheels are 1/2 an inch wider but weigh a LOT less.  I stuck them on to
have a look at all the clearance and just to see how they looked.  To be
honest the standard TII wheels are just miles better suited to the car -
what do you think?

Ricco_04

The guy who had the car before must have reversed onto a low wall because the spare wheel well was looking slightly....ur....bent!

I set to work with my metal bending tools ;) and got virtually all the dent out.  After that I got any remaining rust off and finished up with a good slap of underseal:

The car tool well had also fallen foul to the elements.  This was due to a leak in one of the rear spoiler mounts.  Got to work sanding it ( and heck did it just take hours :( )  This is a picture from half way through:

Just some lacquer to go on now :)

What sort of condition are your rear arch wells in Ricco? Do you have any really good close up pics as to what they should look like?

I always thought it was odd we got a plastic liner for the front but the back is left bare.

pdtaylor18

the front is more open to the road as you will have all the inner wing, washer bottles, front bumper etc that would get plastered with mud and dirt and the obvious corrosion.  The rear has nothing as its all one piece compared to the front where the wings and front can be replaced.  Mind you i would prefer a piece of plastic worth pence to take the battering than the inner arches but then all the JDM ones i have worked on in the past year (4) they have all not had one bit of rust.  The UK ones I just scrapped !!! not even sure a piece of plastic would have helped them if fitted from new.

Hey at least if your wheel well can be smacked up like that without half the back end of the car falling off you know your doing ok for rust :) usaly water leaks etc rot most of that clean off.

Yeah I thought that when I was removing the front ones.  As Pete says the fronts have more to defend against.

My rear arches arn\'t too bad, yes there is some rust in there but not as much as I thought for a nearly 20 year old car :)  Plan to get what is rusty fixed and then use about 9 tonnes of underseal - just to be sure! :spank
