fd wheels wont fit the front iirc

keep up the good work
400 BHP - 650 KG\'s = 616 BHP Per Ton of Rotary Power

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!

Thaks mate :)   Is it the inner clearance that\'s the problem do you know?

Ricco_04

Little bit of an update.......

Roof had a "little" bit of rust which needed getting rid of.  I didnt want to keep seeing it so I sanded away all the rust.  Untill I got round to painting properly, I gave it a good coat of Hammerite to keep it out of the elements :)

Engine bay had been completly sanded back with all traces of rust removed.  This has been done completly from the front to the bay bulkheak.  Everywhere got a rub dow and then shot with primer!

I was looking at doing that to mine but its so much stuff to take off especially as i have air con. Engine is out anyway.  I have cleaned mine up and polished it and it does come up quite nice but not good enough for my liking.  Think i may well take the plunge when the cars back from Replikit.  At least in that time I can detail the engine and get the new turbo on etc but i\'ll post all that up in my thread.  Are you keeping the colour the same? Still tempted to change mine to a nice vibrant red with a metallic flake to it but the work involved is immence to get everything done properly and make it seem like it left the factory like it.

Yeah, they do clean up pretty well dont they :)  Bit of restorer on the bay works a treat.  Only reason I did mine was because I had attacked a few areas of rust and with every component out it seemed a waste not to respray it :)

I\'d say that if you look under a bonnet and wish it looked cleaner then spend the extra time and get it done :Thumbs-up

I shall be keeping the same colour but if I did change it I would like to go for a really really dark metallic blue.  I like darker colours because they polish & reflect better :) (but love them in white too....damm it!)

What do you think of the velocity red they use for thr RX-8?  Would you be tempted with that?

I think I will have to see that close up but it would be nice to go for a colour that i can get over the counter...........cough......Halfords.  trouble with most of the Jap colours is they are hard to get in a spray can and i think i want that option if i choose to spray other things etc later on, or even the touch ups.  The FC red is nice but i think i would like it more darker red.  I also love the blues and especisally the dark blue |mazda used on some of the FC\'s and FD\'s.
White is nice but shows all the dirt.  I also get some discoluration at the exhaust tips due to the heat, might create some carbon covers as i have a roll of the stuff.

Mmmmm yeah, rattle cans are always good.  I was surprised what a good finish with them (when I first started).  I\'m sure that there are some places online that you can order with your make, model, year and paint code and they will send you some fresh mixed up paint.  Dont know how many £££ though :(

The problem with paint is that once its on a car it ages, oxides, discolours from UV rays, smogs etc. The thing we do is take a panel (usually a light cover or wing mirror) to a motor factors/paint supplier and one of their experts there (ours has over 25 years experience) mixes up a new colour, simulating the fading/discolouration/whatever. Most times its a near perfect match, and only requires a small amount of blending into surrounding paint. I think most Part Co stores do it, should even be able to get it put into rattle cans for touch ups etc.

Just thought I\'d show you my attempt at repainting the engine bay (seeing as the car has been scrapped now no-one will see my efforts otherwise! :));

Some hard work gone into that, what a shame you had to break it in the end.  Am I right in thinking you now have the black one - sure I saw it in another thread?

Im using hammerite on the areas underneath for the reason you say that it\'s a lot tougher stuff.  Im not using it anywhere you can see it but the colour difference is not that bad at all :)

I know, such a lot of work to never even see an engine in it, ah well just preparing me for the \'challenges\' coming up later using a 400hp FC as a daily driver..
Yes I have a Black JDM coupe now, very tidy, only 40,000km on the clocks and very very solid. Dropped a rebuilt street ported motor into it and have done about 9 months worth of work to it since, about 85% done. I will put a real progress thread up soon when I have time to go through and upload all the photos.
Also Hammerite is good stuff :) easy to apply, readily available and tough!
Nice project by the way, its always good to come check up how its doing every so often.

Ricco_04

Thanks fella, I shall also be following your project :Thumbs-up

Ok all the primer has had a complete rub down (tiring stuff this!)  followed up with base coat and clear lacquer.

Managed to get some replacement glass for the lights.  Gave the chrome surround a good polish along with the new glass units and all came up well.  Re-blacked all the trim and attached them backtogether.

I have completley recovered the main loom in the engine bay.  Takes a while but the old tape (although not really brittle) was coming undone  and needed a tidy.

I have also welded up a few items.  The spare wheel well would have been ok once I had sanded it but it was just a bit too thin for my liking.  So out with the cutters and in with a new piece of metal.  I also sorted a bit of rust on the inner arch of the left rear.  And the last bit for now was to weld the front left brake pipe mounting bracket back on.

All went very well & everything that I welded is proper solid! :D

I have also started sanding down some ali brackets which had been oxidizing (Fuse box bracket, fuel pump cover, filler inspection cover)  These will be primed up and then sprayed satin black :)

pdtaylor18

if you send your address i will send you a roll of heat resistant tape for your loom. its in black and self adhese\'s to itself. Dam fine stuff.
