i realise this is the hottest an engine should run at in water temp terms, but is it ok for an engine to sit at this temp....pretty consistently?

cheers guys.....

antnicuk

a standard FD will sit higher than that, the fans wont come on until 100 ish degrees....

mid 80s would be nice though.
400 BHP - 650 KG\'s = 616 BHP Per Ton of Rotary Power

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!

How about 75-79 under boost is that alright. He He He He He. :p

Warthog, no its too cold that ;) wont be helping ;)

The average piston engine will blow its Headgasket at boiling point (100degrees C ) although I understand the rotary will go higher than this although you dont want it much higher, Ive seen 109 before and was scared pooless until I did a little research, 117 IIRC is the figure which the rotary is unsurviveable unless your very lucky....

If you are driving around consistanly eg - motorway and see figures over 100oC there might be a problem ? either with your ducting or cooling system.

Deffo pull over if you see over 110oC while in motion to be on the safe side.

Mine will not go over 90oC if in traffic or not, on motorway on way to pod on sunday air intake 16oC water temp 74oC

well its in a beetle.....
got a 3row rad...bit of a beast
and a kenlow fan
and it just sits there all day

davegttph1

IIRC the fan switch on the Citroen AX isnt set to come on til 99oC so you should be OK....

what type of beetle? old or new? Old ones would sit at high temps IIRC due to poor air flow

dubber91

haha, old ones dont have a radiator!
 :wave

Ive installed all the lines to the front of the car and cut out the front valance....

Mine gets there pretty quickly and i haven\'t had any problems with it, i agree with gurj in that if it goes over 110 pull over and let it cool. On a really hot day i stopped for 5 mins and the engine wouldn\'t start. Gave it half hour and temp had come back down, started first time!

The fan kicks in around 100degrees? Hmmmm that\'s what I heard too. But for my case at about 82 - 85 the fan kicks in.... I\'m not sure if the prev owner mod anything on the fan relay but it kicks in at 82-85. Any idea? I dont think my water temp gauge is faulty...

Cheers,

Jason,

you can reprogramme for the fans to come on earlier, most likely whats been done to yours already chap.

My fans come on at 90oC.  :)

85deg is a good allround temp as the engine will be warm with thermo opened much lower is good for performance but not for economy..mine sits at 88-89 unless in traffic when it soon hits 94 when the fan kicks in..the apexi can adjust temp at which fans kick in..no use setting too low or they will be on most of the time...all this is with a fmic u will see lower temps without this

Hmmmm sounds interesting... I\'m not using any PFC... how can I reprogramme it? Any tips/tricks?  :god

If you require a re-programme you need to book it into a specialist really Jason, as the ECU will require re-programming.

I have no idea of the chances you have in Malaysia ?

Kekekeke, opsss I didn\'t know the stock ECU can be re-programme. I pretty sure we do not have the tools to re-programme stock FD ECU.

Normally over in Malaysia we use Microtech or PFC to tune FDs, sometimes MOTEC too.
