hi all,

my rex has been running like a dream since engine rebuild. done just over 2100 miles on new engine .

friday before last got caught in the five hour queue on m25 and i have a few concerns.  i left the bonnet up and stopped the car at every oppurtunity to keep it cool and i am absolutely certain the car did not overheat but it was an incredibly hot day. got home and everything seemed fine as i gave the car a 50mph run for 30 mins to cool her off. checked oil - it had halfed! checked radiator coolant - also Halfed! so topped all up.
then other day returned from work and parked up. left car bout ten mins then started it again to move it onto drive - fine.

next day went to start it - no luck. think it had flooded. had to leave starter motor ticking for quite some time before she fired.
i thought it may have flooded due to them runnin rich when started and turned off too quick, but the car was still red hot after ten mins when i moved it.  it is definately not starting as well as it was. i cant remember the actual amount of times i stopped and started in the traffic but it was over 5.
any ideas?
i get the feelin i am in for a very very expensive few weeks!

cheers

Nick,

I had the same problem at the weekend, when i kept moving the car round, driven it everyday since, and it\'s been fine. started every morning first time.

Mine has done this too - started on one rotor a few times - but after a while, it ran fine, and has been fine since...

Mine also did this after a couple of thousand miles...

Whether you have been driving hard or stuck in traffic, I\'ve found the best way to cool the car down is as follows.

I use this same procedure before leaving the car completely, on the understanding she will not be coming out again for at least 30 mins.

When you stop the engine (after 15 mins of cooling down driving) the water temp reaches around say 83 C or on a hot day say, 86C.

After shut down the water temps rise to 100+ after only 5mins, 110+ after longer periods.

To cool her down, keep the ignition on and the bonnet open, switch the A/C on! This will bring one fan (speed 1) on and the other (speed 2) when water temp reach the trigger setting (mine is set at 94c stock is higher 98c?).

I monitor the Power FC, when temps reach 94 C (for people that do not have a Power FC, 4 mins after shut down you’ll reach 94C), I turn the engine on until 79-80 c is reached to circulate the water (approx 1 min), and this cools down the engine. I carry out this procedure twice. After completing this procedure the water temps never rise above 90C, leaving me to do my daily chores and not worrying about whether she was shut down to hot!

This only takes 10-15 mins and provides you with a good opportunity to check oil levels and look for leaks etc.

Forgot to add.....

The next step would be to fit an electrical water pump! That is a mod in the foreseeable future, after the Single, blah blah blah.
