In the future will have to look at rebuilds seeing that my car has done 65000 now with no rebuild, most of the work on my car so far has been done by Ross at dragon performance, so lets here some reviews on his rebuilds. Was thinkin of gettin street port done aswell but for now keeping standard twins standard intercooler and fuel system but def gona get a power fc to make sure everythin is set up properly etc, any other useful tips when gettin rebuild, i use the car for street and at some point in future might hav a go at track and drag strip.

Mate I make the 400+ mile round trip to see Ross, I had a rebuild done by Dragons a few minor problems but on the whole top shout really happy with it never lost any water, starts all the time, feels really sweet.

i aslo had mine ported by Ross and still kept the stock twins, really recommend his rebuilds.

can not comment on anyone else as Ross is the only guy I have been to.

cheers i a m prob gona go with dragon when i get it done, hes been very helpful in the past, also everyone wot are the tell thell signs that a rebuild is needed?? soz mgiht be a bit of a stupid question but my car has done 65,000 and have been told before that most rebuilds are needed around 60,000, how will i tell when mine is on its way.

many thanks

Col

some cars go on for ages before needing a rebuild it all depends how the car has been looked after (servicing, driven etc etc), my engine went at 65,000km for the water seals,

you can either keep driving it till the engine does go which may be years away

or for peace of mind get the rebuild and know you have a fresh engine.

You could always get a compression test which will give you a much better idea on how solid your engine is and how far away your car is from a rebuild?

chrisJDM

ok cheers might hav that done, i take it ross can prob do that

Col

hello mate Ross can do it all hopefully I will be seeing him again in November :cool

AtomicRex

Ross isnt rebuilding my engine, as it was done a couple of months ago, but he is doing loads of other work.  Really good set up, and Ross really does know his stuff!

Having seen some of the stuff he has in his new premises, I would whole heartedly recomend you having your engine rebuilt.  I think he even gets you accommodation for the night whilst he rebuilds the engine!! :)

chrisJDM

nice sounds good, i have been down and had a full service hen i first got my rx at his old premises in exeter and while re was still movin went down to the new place in dunkeswell and had some parts fitted and some problems solved, am prob gonna go with Ross as he is not that far from me and seems to definatly know what he is on about and have only heard good things.

ScuttleRX

Might save you a bit of money if you have it rebuilt before it goes pop as theres likely to be more re-useable parts rather than having say an apex seal go and ruining rotor housings etc. There again your motor could go another 10-15000 miles before you need a rebuild making it a bit of a false economy...

mmm, this post isnt proving very helpful :), gives ya something to think about though, might be worth having a word with Ross, or another engine builder see if there is any worthwhile gain to having a pre-\'pop\' rebuild

chrisJDM

yes lol it would also probably be good 2 see if it is likely to go \'pop\' soon, get it compression tested etc.

chrisJDM

thing is this is the first rx i have owned and have neva been in another one and the only ones i have heard are ones drivin past or ones at rotorstock 2, so i dont always know if the sound of my car is ok and stuff lik that, i know my manifold has a crack in it so porb doesnt sound quite right all the time anyways.  Also i dont know if the performance of the car is up 2 scratch having neva been in another rx to compare it 2, i know i have been having boost problems at the mo and the crack on the manifold doesnt halp matters but i have had a Peugeot 306 GTi 6 and a Clio sport keep up wtih me on a straight so cant be right lol, its still quick but i dont think its no where nr what it should be.

ScuttleRX

having a check up sounds like a good idea then, dont want the frenchies keeping up with you :)

chrisJDM

lol definetly not, quite alot of the time at the mo, put my foot down and car makes alot of noise, turbos working hard and boosts but doesnt seem 2 boost enough if you get me, is this turbo lag maybe? dont know alot bout it

ScuttleRX

have you got a boost gauge? dont really get much turbo lag with stock twins, sequential set up is pretty good, if alls working ok first should kick in around 2500-3000, and both will be flowing at 4500. If your in say 3rd or 4th tho it may be a bit slow (relatively speaking) on the uptake until you hit 4500rpm when that second turbo comes in

Doubt manifold is helping, and maybe a boost leak somewhere ? would explain turbos working but not feeling it...

chrisJDM

yes i thihk thats the most likely, im hopefully gonna geta boost gauge and water temp gauge soon, see how much boost im getting, thanks for the help
