I guess so, yes, although the UK rotary cars are catching up fast... the  RE:Worx car has just run a 9.8 @ 143mph today (11/06/05).

Norton

What a shame its not still running, would\'ve been great to have it run at Rotorstock. It might have been running in the 7\'s by now.

Carl

Eamon Hurley told me a long time ago that he came off the bike quite bad many years ago and he never recaed it again.
It used NSU rotary parts and was triple rotored.

Says on Hurleys website that the last time it ran he binned it at 156mph - but didnt break any bones - born lucky I guess!

Site also says it was a twin Carl?:

Twin rotor NSU rotary engine
3.5 litre wade super-charger
Hillborn fuel injection system with Nitrous Oxide
Two piece crankshaft, with centre main bearing
Swing Tip Seals, Duplex Side Seals
\'O\' Ringed Corner Pins
No Sparking Plugs or Distributor
Dry Weight 748 lbs
Fuel Methanol and 25% Nitro-methane
Fuel Consumption, 8 Gallons/mile
R.

bet he had some severe gravel rash ofter that spill !

Carl

Interesting that the site say\'s it was a 2 rotor Rich.Eamon definitely told me it was a triple and even showed me the engine from it many years ago.
funny that.

I think he must have been telling you about his triple axle RO80 over \'a few\' beers  :Laugh

Carl

oh well,
maybe the engine is like the dummy 6 rotor engine they have put together?

Sorry, am I reading that right - Did you say 6 ROTOR!  :InLove

Carl

Hurley\'s have not done a 4 rotor yet,but they took a dummy mock up of a 6 rotor to a show a while ago with no internals.
I have built a 54 rotor engine mock up with no internals too.LOL!

I wonder where they got themselves a 2 piece crankshaft from way back in 82???
and 8 miles to the galon isnt too bad considering the speed and power output of the beast. (not that I rcomend everyone using meth and nitro mix.... I dont quite understand the whole no spark plug thing either.
Last point, would the hillbourne injection have been mechanical? I saw a 13b with mech injection once in oz in a oval dirt track racer. Not seen too much more of that type of set up though.
  cheers, michael.

probably made it themselves, they aren\'t that complicated.

edit* Nitromethane is a compression ignition fuel (like the little glow plug engines :) )  I guess thats why they have a HUUGE supercharger too

Carl

The top fuel guys still use spark plugs on Nitromethane with serious high power magneto\'s,45 amp\'s.They have 2 plugs per cylinder.
By about half way up the track the spark plug tips have melted and the white hot metal ignites the fuel.6000 hp minimum. All from 11 litre engines.
