I started taking off my old knackered diff last night , almost got the whole thing off just got the 4 bolts on top of it to undo .... how the hell do you get to them or do you just undo the bracket that they\'re attatched to ????

I\'ll take some pics when its off , I did a proper job , the casing is in about 5 or 6 different pieces , removed one bolt and 2 pieces fell off

hopefully I\'ll have my new one fitted in time for the jap day at pod on the 19th , then I can blow that one :bandit

You will find that with the powerplant frame removed ( the girder that connects the diff to the gear box) that the diff drops down enough at the front to get a spanner over the top to undo the four bolts.

You will find the bolts very tight so put a short 17mm spanner on and tap undone with a club hammer to get them started as this will save a lot of grunting.

BTW please be carefull as they are heavier than you will think.

hope this helps
All the best Clive

I\'m just chuckling to myself about who\'s posted to this thread so far... had to be you two. :D

Donato

Hi Paul,

Unless you have done it recently its probably a good idea to change your fuel filter while you are there mate, easy access with the diff out...

cheers

Donato

I can vouch for this after being knocked on the head by a supersonic spanner that was launched by having the diff land on it ! best to stick a trolley jack under it first

I guess the same goes for dropping the gearbox out! :p

I\'m going to be doing that in the next couple of months to do the clutch! Ooohhh....

Hi Donato , Yeah was planning to change it , makes sense , other possability is to relocate it to the engine bay

Hi Clive , I should have given you a lift changing yours then I\'d know how to do it :cool , I didn\'t know the powerplant frame came out , I\'ll go and have a look now , just in case I can\'t suss it out how do I get it out ??

by the way on the subject of relocating the fuel filter link to it here what do you guys think ?? do you think its a good idea or not worth it ???

I would have thought that if you\'re replacing the fuel filter to a different smaller type like they have in that article, then surely it\'s just as easy to relocate that filter to somewhere more appropriate under the car, more easily accessible than the stock filter?

Therefore, it\'s not located in a hot engine bay, but it is located in an easier to get to location.

Tintin

Well I got the bugger off , ended up taking off the top bracket as I couldn\'t get the 4 bolts undone , also couldn\'t remove the cat so I only loosened the powerplant frame but it all worked

I\'ll post some pics once i\'ve resized them , its not as bad inside as I thought it would be , crown wheel looks fine , but the whole unit has bust apart , the casing is in 2 completely seperate peices ( and its omly a few blots that are holding them together
