Folks as the title suggets i want to buy an RX7 after moving away from BMW. (latest series)

I do a 50 mile round trip to work every day via motorways at an average of 70/80 mph so therefore how much can i exopect to spend on petrol?

Also every 2 or 3 times a year we drive over to france to visit family. This is about a 5/7 hour drive and we always go during summer so its very hot. Is the RX reliable enough to put up with this kind of driving and heat?

I will be modding it no doubt but the power will hit about 300BHP max and the mods will be designed around reliability rather than all out speed.

If you could advise me on the questions above it would really be appreciated..

I have been doing a similar round trip to my work for the last 10 years. the last two have been in an rx7 and i have to say the fuel is expensive, i was doing 70mile round trip and was using 1 1/2 to 2 tanks of fuel a week. I have now started using my old audi for work as its deisel, going to keep the RX for weekend fun only now. Depends if you have the cash to spend on fuel or not....my advice would be to get a cheap run around and therefore spread the fuel bill, i sometimes bring the Rx to work but only every so often now, which keeps the fuel bills to a resonable level and means she doesnt kill me because i can afford to take her out for dinner....it also means the wear and tear on the rx is less, i dont care if the audi falls apart ;0)

There are guys on the MRC running there cars in Greece and various other places, they are as good or bad as any other car, all down to who\'s looking after them! ;)

There are various mods you can do to keep them nice and cool and more reliable too..

Cheers

Whats the MRC, also what sort of problems have you had on yours?

MRC is the site you are on mate, mazda rotary club.

I cracked a tip last year at rotorstock but that was because i didnt get the fueling checked after it was imported and the guys that gave me didnt know enough about them to either get it checked or let me know i needed to anyhoo..

ast tanks are good at splitting, i ended up replacing it with an aluminium after the second one went.

nothing else i can think of to be honest, apart from vandalism! :reallymad

they are good cars if you first select the right car to begin with and secondly maintain them well..just like any other car. The rotary puts people off but there is actually less moving parts to go wrong, im sitting at 300bhp at the wheels, the bigger the power you go for the more probems you can encounter, but the power you are aiming for will give you lots of nice happy trouble free motoring if you look after her right. i have used mine for trackdays, drag racing and work for the last year without any problems since the rebuild apart from the ast tanks, but they can go on any age of car and any power as they are part of the cooling system and generally go because they are made out of crap plastic...

350ish at the flywheel and it a perfectly good everyday car, its just expensive on fuel which is why i have got a old audi to go to work in, and so i dont clock up to many miles for wear and tear...

cheers
