Brakes question

Does anyone know if the brake master cylinder will affect the ABS hydraulic unit?

My brakes are ****e and the ABS light is on all the time, I was just wondering, if the master cylinder is biffed whether it will affect the ABS hydraulic unit thus causing the light to come on....

Any ideas anyone?
