im on an another forum and everyone on it does not beleive that an Rx7 can run over 180 mph on a standard box. So what i need is evidence that an FD on a standard box running a 4.1 final drive can do over and beyond that speed.   Im begging for links they cant argue with as its a matter of pride, me versus the ford and vauxhall boys. much appreciated.

there arguement is a ford or vauxhall with 400 horse cant do 180 so jap crap cant. wtf lol :bandit

Its not worth the arguement
std type R (265ish BHP @1250kg approx) = 0-60 5 secs & 165mph top end.

Ask them to actually name a ford or vauxhall with 400bhp, a similar weight and thats half as aerodynamic as the 3rd gen - bet they struggle (oh yes everyone\'s got a GT4 of course & lotus carlton on their driveway)

i run a standard g/box, seem to remember seeing 140mph as i was changing up into top gear (not on the public road officer)

anyone else?

If memory serves, Geff ran a 176mph at TOTP2 @ 7600rpm running with an automatic rear diff.  I think at the time the car was putting out in the high 300\'s in rwhp.  This was top speed on a 1.5 mile run I think - it wasn\'t very far.

OK, bit of maths, assuming an auto diff has a ratio of 3.9, then running a manual diff of 4.1 would mean you\'d need to be pulling 7989rpm to run 176mph.  So to reach 180mph you need to be pulling 8170rpm.

I\'m pretty sure that the rev limiter is set to 8200rpm, so you should be able to get there, however unless you\'re running a fair port, i.e. with the power band further up the rev range I think you\'d probably loose on top end power and not make it.  I made max power (317rwhp) at about 7000rpm on a non-ported motor, would think she\'d be down nearer the 265rwhp at those revs...

Bigger wheels is another option...

Top Of The Pops 2??

Cant remember if it was 176 or 182, rpm was in the mid 7k\'s from recollection.

Yeah, TOTP2, he was on after Kylie and before Coldplay :D

I think he ran a 182 at some point, but on the timed run only hit 176.  I had a quick look back through an old FDUK post.
