my engine bay could do with a bit of a scrub up to get it looking all lovely and shiny. Anyone got any advice for the best way tyo go about it?

I have for many many years(18+yrs) have always used the traditional method.... Standard engine degreaser, either areosol or brush on, depends on the extent of flith....
Been using \'GUNK\' which comes in both aerosol and brush on and you can get it just about anywhere... even some Petrol stations stock it!

Warm engine slightly, Just spray/brush on leave for 15-20 mins and spray off with normal water..... more pressure and least cold the water the better.
Once all washed off, start up, idle for 5 mins till warm take car for a spin 5-10 mins come back park and idle for 5 mins, shut off and leave alone for 1/2hr with bonnet shut(to maintain the warmt to dry the bay even more).... Check after 1/2 hr or more later to make sure most or all is dry under there!

And if you are keen, Halfrauds sell an engine protectant spray.
Spray(aerosol) it pratically everywhere(with engine warm) and then start engine and let run for 5-10 mins to get warm/hot and then this time open the bonnet and leave for 1/2 - 1 hour in order to let the vapour escape and also aids in drying it on the engine better!!!!

Others may moan and say not to spray water in the engine bay, but thats down to their lack of knowledge or experience.
Obviously I don\'t expect you to spray a full blast concentrated on main electrical items....

I\'ve been doing it as I say for almost 20 yrs and before me the old man as well so add another 30 yrs........ no problems!

 Hope that helps

I concur with Trex

I do it nearly everytime I clean the car, on all my Mazdas.
