following on from my spongy brake pedal thread how does the abs work in normal situation ie not controlling anti lock but under normal braking distibution of the fluid to all four corners of the car.does the abs unit have internal seals etc that could be faulty the calipers are all working/master cylinder and lines have been checked and changed/front calipers are new and system bled and brakes pull up pretty well but pedal feel is still spongy???any tech ideas please.
when bleeding the system is it poss the abs unit has air in it and if so what is solution just keep bleeding???
any suggestions please

This may not help - but a retired engineer, who used to do really difficult problem solving bits for me on my old cars, got into a huge argument with Honda when the dealer \'ruined\' his ABS system while working on the brakes of his daily car.  He got Honda in Japan involved. (He had a very impressive fax header with long strings of letters after his name) They airfreighted the parts express to his local Honda dealer. He told me he stood in the spectator bit of the workshop and watched them do exactly the same again - ruining all the new parts as well.  Lawyers names were mentioned at this point in the story and I confess I switched off as ABS was a bit too high-tech for anything I owned then.

Don\'t remember what he said they did wrong but it was quite a simple, basic error in procedure. If he was right, and he was always right about the stuff he did for me, it does seem possible to damage the ABS doing quite routine tasks like changing / bleeding brakes.  His car drove and stopped but I forget whether he said  pedal feel was what alerted him in the first place.

Sorry, that\'s probably not very reassuring is it. Do any of the US sites have info on do\'s and don\'ts?

After the Honda story above I had a quick look on the Robinette site and there were no dire warnings about dealing with the ABS so I might be talking out of my *rse.  (It happens sometimes...can be fairly embarrassing too.)
