Hi guys,
Did some searches into old threads about what tyres to go for.  Everybody seemed to have rated Eagle F1 and Bridgestone S-03 highly.  What about Toyo T1R??
I had T1S on my MX5 a while ago, and they were unbelievably good wet or dry.  Even with the backend out, you still have time for a cup of coffee or something.  Though, that was MX5, it was designed to be super user friendly anyway.

So, how do you compare the 3??

S-03, more grip, but less forgiving?
F1, less grip than S-03, but more feel and more user friendly?
T1-R, better than T1-S wet or dry?

Cheers

Have never driven a car with SO-3\'s, although I understand that they are not as good as the old SO-2\'s . Compared with F1\'s the Bridgestone is a heavy tyre, that is to say it adds to the unsprung wieght on the suspension which is a bad thing!

I have F1\'s on my FD and they are fantastic. Had them on the FTO as well and had no complaints there either. The pattern on the Toyo\'s are similar to the Goodyear, but I dont think they are as good from what Ive heard. Again I havent driven a car with Toyo\'s fitted.

The Bridgestones are also more expensive then the Goodyear\'s so in order of preference:-

Goodyear
Bridgestone
Toyo

Just my ten pence!

Thanks iiyama,
Like you, I\'ve only tried 1 of those 3 brands.
Rang up a tyre dealer today.  Was told that T1-R is an improvement over the T1-s, mainly on the structure the the tyre wall.  They claimed T1-R and F1 are just as good as each other, and also told me that S-03 was never a popular choice.  I suppose price was the main reason, though he didn\'t comment on that.
A mate who\'s running T1-s or R claimed that he choosed Toyo over F1 was because of the durations.  Apparently F1 wears out quicker the Toyos.  ??

I\'m in the same situation here,

Which tyres???

I had some eagle f1\'s on my old 17" wheels that i sold to pete millis, and they were great tyres..........so i have no experience of the other makes on rx7\'s.

I would like something a tad gripper tho...like a road legal track tyre.......i was thinking Dunlop D01\'s......had a look on garys rotary tarts site, but they dont do them in the size i need for my 18\'s :(

Hi Dan,
Im looking for fast road tyres right now, as I wont be able to go to track days before my warranty runs out.  Agree with you on the road legal track tyres.  A bit handed in the wet though, no??

msc125

i just got some new wheels and tyres (they\'re off at the moment :(  suspension probs, see my other thread). i originally wanted the f1s but unfortunately there was a few weeks wait for the rears, so i went for the t1s.

when i spoke to the guy who fitted my tyres he said that the f1s were a good choice, but more pricey in the long run as they wear about twice as fast as the toyos!! he said the grip was slightly better, but the trade-off between grip/ duration of the tread meant that he would recommend toyo t1s everytime.

i just want goodyear on the side of my tyre, reminds me of the good ol\' days of f1! :p

Dan Norton

J.j.........yea, in the wet it might be a bit hairy scary with trackday road legal tyres......

MSC125......sounds like a salesman doing his job;) ......altho, i\'m sure peeps with toyo\'s will agree :D

Those yoko avs sports are starting to appel to me tho......found them on //www.mytyres.co.uk

running toyo T1-S on my MX at the mo and I have no complaints.  Went for T1S instead of T1R on recommendation from a man I trust about all things roadster.

Had SO-3\'s on my RX, and never had any trouble - until the spin that totalled the car, but I don;t think any tyres would have made a difference there.  I found them to be very grippy wet and dry, but the ice had them licked.  I think they did really come into their own once warmed up though.

Cant say I ever thought the F1\'s wore out quickly! FTO is as your probably aware FWD, did numerous trackdays before I had to change the front tyres.

If the Toyo\'s have a better wear rate they are probably harder and therefore they wont have as much grip as the Goodyears.

Its always a trade off. Yokohama\'s are meant to be very grippy, but because of this are very soft. They therefore wear very quickly.

J.j.

Yoko AVS?  Are these what they put on Elises??  Yeah, they do wear out very very quickly I was told.
Good point iiyama.  Softer = more grip = less life.
Was thinking about T1-R or F1, they cost the same.
What about that new Yoko Dan??  They are called Panda or something, cant remember now.

Cheers ian,

yea, the only dealings i have had with yokohama were the set of advans a459...or summit:confused: .....they were on my old crx when it came over, grippiest tyres i have ever experienced:eek:

thats one of the reasons i am steering towards these avs sports.
