I really like the mazda rx7\'s and my dad has got an impreza sti type r which I will be having when the time comes, I want to sell this and by a rex for about 6k which means it will probably an import around 94 reg.

Anyone been in the same situation in which they hav the funds to buy one? had any problems with running the car or insurance etc, anything will help. thanks in advance

I had a 2nd Gen RX7 as my second car, before that i had an X reg 999cc orange which was the worst car ive ever driven.

I would strongly discourage having a 3rd gen rx7 as your first car, not because of lack of driving skill etc, but because of the temptation to drive too fast, and rx7s are not forgiving cars in any weather, i managed to put my 2nd gen rex into a wall showing off, and that really brought my driving down to earth, although its hardly the kind of experience youd want with your first pride and joy, its much better to gain some experience with a car thats less cherished than an rx7 would be.

Just my opinion though:cool

yea its understandable. The subaru would probably be better for me as it is 4wd. i might keep the scoob for about 6 months n get used to it all then might switch to 3rd gen rx7. thanks mate

well worth the wait m8, i got a bit of rear wheel practice in my mr2 turbo but the rex is a beast compared to that. :bandit

I got my rex when i was 20 and i think that was a bit too early, even though i had a lot of driving experience (i used to do 70k a yr).  You need to really ground yourself not to show off and do something stupid.
Save that for when your own!:D   minus the stupid bit that is....
Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of an rx7.

wouldn\'t the insurance be more than the car lol :)

never mind all that i hope you have s small countries budget for runnign costs & insurance. How old are you if i may pry? i Had  relatively cr4p car for the first couple of years (nice little 205) then went for a UK scooby which while i\'d been saving for a couple of years & had a good budget for buying i didnt really realise how expensive performance cars (OK & the inevitable modding) were http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008_ZNxdm46052GB\' target=\'_blank\'>http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/10/10_12_8.gif\' border=0> Either way on a type R scooby in grp 20 yer guna be in for a large portion of bung hole selling to fund it. Fair play if you can afford all that & good luck to you, the type R will be a bit better of an education in RWD future ownership as at least you have adjustable diff so more power going to rear wheels. Great cars IMO so as i say if you can afford it then enjoy.
Basically try & get as good an idea as possible about how much it\'s going to cost if you can afford a couple of k insurance, a few k for servicing & what a good £1 every 5 miles or so for fuel & well party time http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008_ZNxdm46052GB\' target=\'_blank\'>http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/5/5_1_120.gif\' border=0>

Yea its beginnin to sound like im better off with the scooby type R which i am either gonna hav to pay 2k for the insurance or drive 3rd party (not best option).

Im feeling at an advatage to most people as all i have to do is save up for insurance on the car instead of having to buy a car aswell so it may be possible.

Im 16 now and just a few months away from 17 and have not stopped talkin about a first car since i was 12! Family says im driving them crazy :reallymad

thanks for the helpful responces so far!

i doubt anyone would insure at 17 m8, if they did you would have to go fully comp.

scooby_si

& good luck with 2k on the type R i was paying £1500 on a standard UK un at 24 with 2 years NCB

17 and can get insurance for 2k on a scooby thats brilliant mate,  just be carefull even though the cars 4wd doesnt mean its impossible to make a mistake ;)

well its gonna be my dad with me as 2nd driver. we live in a fairly good area so its fairly good!

I have driven proffesionally for the last 25 years and would strongly suggest that the rex is not a first car. Although it is by far the most enjoyable vehicle to drive, bar NONE it is also the most difficult, and i\'m sure a lot of people on this forum will admit to writing off their first car, including me, and that was only a moggy thou.

scooby_si

yeah wouldn\'t really advise it either but if the chap or chapess can afford it & has serious self restraint then good luck to them.
On the insurance front thou (Si feels old http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008_ZNxdm46052GB\' target=\'_blank\'>http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/15/15_4_122.gif\' border=0>cause he\'s going into dad mode now) i would consider the doing on dads insurance thing as being only a good short term measure. I recall talk of them trying to clamp down on this & personally i think earning NCB is invaluable i know a few folks who did this with their first cars & now still haven\'t got a chance of getting, at least affordable, insurance on a performance car. Anyway that\'s all fiscal stuff really so that\'s for you to decide what works best for you.
Good luck & most importantly stay safe!!
Si ( i remember when i was a boy.........http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008_ZNxdm46052GB\' target=\'_blank\'>http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/15/15_2_137.gif\' border=0> lmao)
