anyone...

bought my 93 fd back in september

it has developed a noise that occurs only when I go over small bumbs in the road... patches or whatever... it sounds as if it is coming form all four wheels... it is a kind of knocking noise, but it appears that the suspension isnt doinfg it job properly, now if it was the anti roll bar I would get a knocking at and over a certain speed...

I have taken it somewhere and had it up on a hoist and ahd the guy look underneath, he checked the bushes ( how much he knew I dont know)  he did notice that a bolt was missing from one of the parts which he replced, but couldnt answer my question of the noise...

its got to the point now that I take long routes to make sure I dont go over any bad surfaces...

secondly and probably related is the sort of squeeking noise I get when I go over some speed bumps...

the knocking does make some journeys unberable as I feel as though I am doing more harm to the suspoension...

I think it is standard ssupension, and have been told that the road in japan are so smooth they ahve a harder set up than for roads over here...

do I need to replace the bushes and bars or what...

any ideas what the noises are?...

ooohh forgot to say that high speed cornering seems a little unstable, as if the wheels are wobbling!!!

could it be wheel bearings?...

erm dunno but dont sound overly healthy have you had geometry or owt checked/set/done recently?
I;d be tempted to say they all make funny noises but does sound beyond the odd rattle, when you say it makes noise over bumps etc i presume it is only knocking from the wheel being moved on, er bad englisg but you know like when rear wheels go over bump is makes a clunk/knock from rear & not front? Would normally say that sounds a bit of a bushy thing wobbling sounds much more ominous defo get geom sorted if it\'s that extreme you should hear it all time surely but then i didnt know my wheel bearing was on way out till pip mentioned it so just a quick NB that Si actually knows very little......
Cheltneham aint a million miles from Ross off the top of me head (although i failed GCSE geography http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008_ZNxdm46052GB\' target=\'_blank\'>http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/11/11_14_10.gif\' border=0> lol) maybe worth getting it checked out by either an expert in rotories or a decent suspension/wheel place dont sound like the place which did work know their flange from their fangita........

If the car makes the banging noise over slight bumps in the road (even like ripples) then I would suggest that it is the bushes that need looking at - although a bit off as the noise you say comes from all 4 wheels.  I have also had suggested to me that it can also be the toe-link (whatever that is   )

As the bushes wear out more then the noise becomes more aparrant and the faster you go then the more noticeable it is.  The same can also be said for the cornering.  Mine are completly gone and cant really do more than 55mph before the car twitches!!

Just my opinion tho so I could be wrong ;)

the first bush to go is usually the anti roll bar end link. the link between the bar and the lower arm

the thing to do is take it to someone that knows what their doing and get it checked as it could be serious (the anti roll bar links arnt serious)
