could anyone tell me what oil pressure should read when engine is at running temperature at tick over 700rpm and at 3000rpm .

rx7veilside

the standard pressure gge is near useless at idle 2 bar is common but the reader is naff i know of one freshly rebuilt and the gge registers about 1 bar the water and oil temp shd be upgraded if really serious about accurate readings

hmm as said previously the standard gauges are uselss... but they do seem to be consistent...

one thing to remember is that the oil pressure will change ( drop ) as the oil temp increases.

from cold start the oild pres. goes straight up to about 7 and slowly drops... when warm on tickover it is, on std. gagues, is about 2, mines just below and at a3k rpm it is about 4-5...

will also be different if the oil level is a bit low...

if in doubt get new gagues...

My problem is that I recently had my engine rebuilt  I have done approx 150 miles since the work was done. The oil pressure reading is in alignment with r.p.m. That is 0.7 bar at tickover, 2bar at 2000r.p.m. and, 3bar at 3000rpm I am a bit concearned as the engine failed through lack of oil. It is also running very rich when it was infor its MOT  the tester stated that the cat was not working and the lamda reading instead of being 0.65 (approx)was 10.4(approx). I have not revved over 3000r.p.m. any thoughts?

It\'s difficult to say, as the stock gauge is fairly poor.  I remember after I had my rebuild 12mths ago the stock gauge worked well and gave similar readings to the one\'s you\'re getting.  That said, after a few months it was back to reading bugger all.  I think the main problem is the contacts get dirty and cause inaccurate readings.  I\'d discuss this with your engine rebuilder and see what they advise.
