Hey guys I got a 86 rx7 non turbo and I was coming outa a parking lot and I floord it to about 4500rpm then shiftd into second and it was fine about 2 blocks down it started to knock really bad, and I lookd in the rear view mirror and there was quite a bit of smoke coming from the exhaust, so i pulled into the gas station and chcked all the fluids.. everything was pretty much full
and up to date i dont know much about rotarys cause I\'ve only owned the car awhile so if you know anything please please please help

Gman

Had u let the car warm up at all?

You can take the spark plugs out and turn the engione over by hand. If the engine has even a half decent compression ratio it will makes a pfffft noise. Kinda like a soft spitting noise. Hope that this wasnt to bad a description! If the noises arnt there, on either or houseing then I would have to agree with Brett. Wouldnt advise trying to turn it over on the starter motor again until you know what is up otherwise you could damage rotor or housing beyond repair.
Good luck and i hope it is something simple.
  cheers, michael.
