Ok chap\'s and chap\'esses.
It\'s come to the time when the tyres are starting to misbehave  10,000 mls.
Has anyone replaced the tyres for anything other than factory fit?

Toying with the idea of Goodyear Eagle F1\'s. On a previous car (BMW Z3) I had Michelin Pilot Sports fitted when I bought the car new, they were very good in the dry but the car was treacherous in the wet, in fact down right dangerous. Lots of owners were raving about the Eagle F1\'s and the Bridgestone SO2\'s. Went the route of the F1\'s and ferkin L what a difference they totally transformed the car, the Mich Pilot\'s gripped well in the dry but when the limits of adhesion were reached they went from grip to no grip in an instant so you had to be quick to catch it. The F1\'s really let you feel what was going on, so you knew when you were approaching the limit and they let you play a little. In the wet they were STUNNING, I could not believe I was driving the same car, tread patterns very different.
However my tyre contact has big raps for the new Bridgestone SO3\'s, anyone tried them?? They are a dual compound tyre so when you get to about 60% wear (normally tyres start to lose their grip level at that point) the secondary compound kicks in to continue the excellent grip levels, downside, they don\'t last quite as long.
Also on my Exige I have Yokohama A048 semi-slicks, anyone tried those?? They are only about 5mm tread depth from new and expect about 5000mls yes 5000mls before replacement. But the grip is WOW, if your RX is a weekend fun car then these are worth a try but don\'t expect a whole lot of grip in the wet if going for it.
BOTTOM LINE WHO\'S TRIED WHAT AND WHAT ARE YOUR VIEWS.
Cheers.
Janet & John go RX\'ing.

Falken FK451s - love \'em. Fantastic grip. And Falken are far more than the budget tyre maker they used to be. Peeps will probably come on here and slag them now purely for the fact that they don\'t have a big enough price tag and so can\'t be any good

Hiya Janet & John and welcome to MazdaRotaryclub /
MazdaRX-8Club.

With the RX-7 the preferred all round tyre has become the Goodyear Eagle F1\'s, and as the weight distribution suspension type etc is all very similar with the RX-8 I would suggest that you need look no further.

Hope this helps
All the best Clive

I\'m still not sure whether it\'s 10,000 miles or whether it\'s because it\'s now freezing rain rather than rain. Oddly enough I found the car easy to deal with in the snow and ice because of the balance and the ease of throttle control.

I will NOT be putting RE040 on again for sure! Did you find them hideously noisy?

I was thinking F1s too on the basis of conversations with several car clubs.

Avons were on a deal at the local tyre place so two went on the TDI - total rubbish in the wet.
